Sorry, just looking for advice or other's thoughts. If you're not interested in reading there is no TLDR, just move along, nothing to see here.

See my next post.

Not sure what you are saying really. Only way to get peoples respect is to earn it. And to earn it you have to actually put time into whatever you wanna do.

Currently in my senior year at college, have applied for leadership "jobs" multiple times in the past. I'll be attending for 1 more year, so I applied again, got the final step for everything (essentially have the job) and still not hired. Essentially, the only way to show that I'm valuable is through the interview and whatever else they put us through in the interview process. I feel that the process doesn't highlight what I'm capable of since I'm much better at showing than telling.

I've started a fraternity on campus, been on the Elective board for my Gaming club (80 members) for 3 years now, and have actively participated in the Student Association on our "Budget and Finance Committee" which has taught me how to remove my own biases when making tough decisions (ie. macro world vs micro world). We distribute funding to clubs and organizations, and the funding is paid for by all students that attend. I could go into detail about how I'm involved with each of these things, but in regards to the Resident Assistant position it speaks for itself. I've been around, and I've "worked my way up" here.

If there's anything I've put my all into while at college, its being a leader, and trying to improve myself as one.
I used to be that guy that just sat in the corner and was extremely shy.
I always say grades aren't my first priority, and that I'd rather try and learn as much as possible from the class, and its because grades aren't practical experience. What I get on a test isn't going to mean anything when I'm trying to make hard decisions or leading a team.

There's one thing I've never understood and that's how to get others to see what I'm capable of doing, but without having the time or resources and opportunities to do so.

Apparently, going out being an active member in the (college) community, and constantly demonstrating my abilities and then sharing my experiences is not enough.

One of my biggest pet peeves that I don't tell people about is not understanding something, I guess you can consider it almost an OCD for me.
If I don't get it, its just gonna bug me forever until I figure it out or find some way to move on/past it...

Oh, well welcome to graduating from college in today's economy.

My Dad, when he graduated from college, he couldn't get hired in the field he studied to save his life. He went all over the place, and eventually gave up and applied to be a manager at a Jack in the Box. They told him he was, "Over qualified and under experienced."

Ain't dat a bietch.

Just keep your head up and recognize that the degree is not a free ticket in. It's a tool used to improve your chances. (And your paycheck)

I guess you can say its kinda like an internship on campus. Instead of getting paid, the fee for room/board gets waived and you get a 25% discount on food.

You want a leadership job as your first one? Really? Your thesis must be a really good one then, because no one in their right mind will get someone with no experience for a leadership job. That's not how it works. You start at the bottom and work your way up. That's how you prove you're right for the job. You can't get such a job based on trust.

If I were applying for a "real job" I'd completely understand.

Look up the term "Resident Assistant" as a college position and come back to me.
