Sion counters Kassadin. Those are good starting items.

Soft counter, yes pretty much. Kassa can't really harm him. Also,
Sion counters LeBlanc pretty hard.EDIT:
Boots + 3x Health Potion -> 3x Doran's Ring -> Rabadon's Deathcap

sion counters anything that cant lasthit at tower or is dependant on ganking. Sion is not all about countering his lane tho, since he can push his lane easily he opens up the enemy jungle. A good sion will keep his lane pushed and take enemy wraiths every other wave, while always being ready to assist his team.
Sion gets countered by people that can easily destroy his shield (ziggs, ryze no idea who else but there are alot of them) its still not a hardcounter since they have to get near to stunrange to actually do that
-> open to ganks.
Sion is a great champion which can easily reach more than 200 cs after less than 20 minutes.
Remember to be a bully and farm/gank everything you can.
Dont be afraid of getting to lategame even tho he doesnt exactly shine in teamfights you are gonna be a force to be reckoned with because your cs will be alot higher than any1 elses most of the time.
itemwise i would start boots+ pots, get early 2 dorans -> deathcap -> deathfire/void -> the other -> lichbane most of the time -> something defensive.
80% of the time i will get spellpenboots otherwise i might go for mercs or even tabi (vs physical midlaners like panth/talon/gp)

Anything with high dps pretty much defeats Sion in lane. Examples are Cassiopeia, Ryze (one of the hardest counters), Morgana (due to her hard pushing skills and her spell shield), Vladimir (can dodge his stun and has high dps + tankiness later on), Brand, Ziggs, etc.
Xerath works pretty well against Sion as well due to his range advantage.

I don't think she can beat Sion as she is more burst than she is dps. Also, the stun would really hurt her I guess. Haven't played the matchup myself though.

How would you build him? I saw Reginald start wiht Boots & 3 Pots, then stack 3 Doran Rings, what you guys think?
