I don't think it's optimal to build it on most champions, but it just happens to synergize better than other types of builds.
Teemo is the perfect example.
AD sucks because he has mediocre range and no steroids.
AP sucks because Oracles counters your mushrooms.
Hybrid sucks because not enough damage.
Tank sucks because...
Support maybe.
On-hit just has synergy with the champion.

On-hit is a theory build that imo falls off hard. There are champs (teemo) that synergize well with it, but on hit always seems to fall off heavy at end game to me.
It never causes enough DPS to remain valid all game, and when it comes down to fights, it only seems to do well 1v1, once placed in team fights it doesn't do the DPS output that is needed out of a carry.

teemo provides a powerful onehiteffect innately, so why not use that to reapply that dmg? -> wits end/madreds. His range is to low to go full damage, so you build a few defensive items: malelt, GA , wriggles , mercs
and there you go
instalanewin yordle xD
onhit builds provide great damage in the early stages of the game but fall of later...
keep that in mind and enjoy splitpushing wonder teemo
greez sam

Volibear does the on-hit thing pretty well since he has high attack speed from his w and his ult is on-hit already, and he doesn't scale very well with AD or AP anyway. This is of course after you build Atmogs. I especially like it on him since he doesn't have taunts or hard cc, so you need to do some dmg to get people to focus you.
Aparently it works really well on
Warwick too, since his ult auto-procs max stats of pretty much every on hit item out there.

Meh. I used to run on-hit teemo, but now I think AD teemo is better. Does more damage.
I just wouldn't replace him as ad carry bot, but a viable solo top counter pick maybe.
Warwick is decent with a couple on-hit effect items (i.e wits end and madreds) but that's about the extent of on-hit I'd build on him. After that more defense/survivability, with maybe another damage item put in or something.
Really, I just don't see full on-hit builds being very viable anymore. They may synergize well on a select few champs (Teemo), but I think the damage falls off too much and isn't as good as other builds.
Was just wondering other people's take on this.

On hit effects are magic damage, affected by magic resist. Most people build MR, or if not normally, then they will when you are destroying them.
How to counter this? Void staff. But I don't really see that fitting in well to any champs on-hit effect build. It would either take up the slot of a crucial, or at least better, damage/defense item.
I suppose Malady is a decent item to counter magic resist, but it only lowers by 24 at max stacks.
Really, if you factor in the damage after resists, on-hit effect builds don't seem that great.
I can see them being viable on champs like Teemo, who benefit well from ability power.. but I think there's better builds out there.
What's everyone's thoughts on this?
Correct me if I'm wrong on anything.
