If you go hybrid, I recommend Rabadon's Deathcap. Without its high AP, your purple balls of Blighted Quiver cannot be really deadly. And buy yourself a Trinity Force can boost your movement speed as much as Phantom Dancer.

Spell vamp does not affect Varus' W passive or proc. It was in fact confirmed by Riot devs that it's "working as intended" that it does not, simply because they're on-hit/proc effects.

The gunblade is a fairly powerful item, but I don't think it's for Varus. My own method to this particular build madness, personally, is to go Rageblade > Bloodthirster > Nashor's Tooth > Black Cleaver/Madred's/Malady

Which one the fourth item is depends a bit on the game, and what you want to do. If they've caught on to you doing lots of magic damage and realize your magic damage is deadly (rather than going "omg varus so bad, don't worry about him), they might build lots of resist. At which point you may want either Malady to remove that resist, or switch to BC and hit harder with physical damage (I prefer BC simply because it kinda makes em toss their hands in the air, not knowing wtf to do).

Madred's would be good for high-HP teams in general, but it's got the benefit of boosting AD and AS, while also giving you more free magic damage... it even gives you some armor.

Well I tried this build out, and I have to say: Wow!
I simply dominated that game. Especially 1v1. I didn't even have to use my Ult. When they started fleeing because of the damage, I simply dropped Hail of arrows. Then i caught up to them, got Blighter quiver stacked, fired my Piercing arrow, and then they were history.

Great build you got there mate.

It's a matter of personal opinions about how you play Varus. I personally enjoy the build i made because it does both magic damage and physical. since it also reduces both of those, it means tanks are gonna hava a hard time against him. this also means that if you want to counter him, you have to buy both armor and magic resist... or you could try to get more dps than him to make him flee.

i ve been thinking about a hybrid build on varus for some time. i still havent nailed the idea, but i find it interesting.

there is though an observation that gets me thinking:

Although the ulti DOES scales on 1 to ap, the damage is very low; even with a 500 damage on the ulti, which is nice, an AD build with IE+PD does an average of 400 damage per hit; its almost 800dps.

and u need 2 items that don't need to stack per hit (like guinsoo and malady), and in all are cheaper than guinsoo+malady+hextech

the thing (for me) is that the ultimate, is mainly CC oriented. its great for ganking, getting multikills and stuff, but i dont think it does much damage by itself.

that doesnt mean that the items or the build are bad, on the contrary, just thinking about this. in fact, i do use guinsoo in my build to up the dps a little coz of blighted quiver.
