I agree here, but once again, I know there are some examples that are still great guides, but the members can't update/aren't on Moba. For example, the Comprehensive Karma. I still think it's a great guide, and I don't think anything really needs to be changed in it, it's still all relevant. It also only gets updated like once every 4 months.

Definitely agree with everything you said jhoi
Action taken towards this will be better for everyone.

At least it gets updates, the one I had just reported, which is the old top
Gangplank guide was previously Expired.
The author re-published it today doing absolutely nothing to it.

Pikachu: Thanks for bringing that one to my attention. As I said in the Editor forum, the author of that guide is a paramedic and probably no longer plays LoL. It is time for that guide to be archived and a new, up-to-date one to take the throne.
Well, it also comes down to the person whether they think it should be archived too if they can no longer keep it up-to-date.
It is more humble than trying to stay at the top by renewing it needlessly.

Xeronn, some people have no morals. They will refresh the filter just to keep their guide at the top. It is not "helpful" like they think, the community is *not* losing a phenomenal guide, they are gaining an up-to-date guide that will be more helpful than an outdated guide.
Edit: Oh god 5 posts in between this message's creation. I can feel the controversy already.
I agree. I've archived a good 4 builds simply because they went out of date and I didn't want to update them - the point of a GUIDE is to GUIDE users (funnily enough) not boost your personal e-peen at how high of a % you can get. If it no longer fulfils the purpose of GUIDEing the readers, I see no reason to keep it there.
There's a bit of controversy surrounding the whole "What makes it outdated?" thing - what if somebody DOES change something to circumvent THIS new rule (if indeed it's put into place) but something completely irrelevant to relation/to update the guide.
I support this, though. Something WILL have changed in those 6 months - and know that I'd back this cause if it ever came under debate.
You don't NEED to have 100% lifetime commitment to MOBAFire or the champion you made a guide for to make a guide if you do not want to update it - you just need to have the decency to know when your guide isn't helping people any more and when it's time to let go of the otherwise highly rated guide. Otherwise, people are purposefully circumventing general decency to both the readers and other creators.
It quashes both creativity (of guide makers that don't do this cheap trick - they may not make a guide because of that outdated one) and the education readers get out of it. Neither is good for anybody involved except the person that loves to know that they had a popular guide this one time.
Would be good to see something done about it, but it may require a lot of moderation and many people will be annoyed by it.

My experience with authors publishing without updating the content is long and exhaustive, Xenasis, and nothing was ever done, despite multiple PMs and reports, both to Matt and the author of said guides. Inadvertently, some guides went to "expired" when Matt updated the freshness filter, however.
However, I figured that if more people were aware of these occurrences and more people contributed their opinions here, mods/admins would be able to see the distaste we have for said bypassing of the fairness system.

If you want. I just wanted to point out that there are some quality guides that are still relevant that aren't updated often. If there are other guides that are as good, or surpass those older guides, than I'd love to have them up there. I'd just think it'd be sad if an "older but still relevant" guide was forced to archive, and we never have another guide for the same champion with that quality.

It is NOT acceptable. It is NOT fair. It is HARMFUL to the community.
For example: Dodge Seals no longer exist, so WHY DO SOME TOP GUIDES STILL CONTAIN THEM? Last year there was a Morgana guide with Zhonya's Ring in the purchase order. It was FORCE ARCHIVED when the author did not updated it.
I recommend this treatment to all those top guides that have not been updated in 6+ months.
If you have any knowledge of any guides that are deliberately refreshing the freshness filter without updating the content, please post here, but more importantly ALWAYS REPORT. If we have enough people reporting outdated guides, the mods/admins may do something about them.
