I'd just think it'd be sad if an "older but still relevant" guide was forced to archive, and we never have another guide for the same champion with that quality.

Then it depends on the community, and how they view the guide, and how it compares with others. If it is still seen as better than any other guide made in the same category, then it will stay up there. But considering champion guides, there are patches, and changes may or will need to be made to compensate for this, and if that cannot be done anymore on this said guide, then another one may surpass it because of the fact that it has more recent information, and is more relevant.

I agree with this (although, who wouldn't?). Outdated guides that are spam published aren't helping anyone.

hmmm... there might be a simple fix. Could we include a button that when clicked reports the guide for being outdated. Then someone can review it and, if found guilty of outdatedness, warned to fix their guide in the next week or it will be archived. Nothing harsh, but it allows users to go back to forgotten guides and fix them up.
thanks Hogopogo for the banner :D

There is a report button.. and you can report it for being outdated, and post it on a thread afterwards, then Admin/Mods will review it lol

That's kinda how it's already done.

I'm pretty sure someone suggested the Vets should monitor some guides to prevent bad ones from going really high up, and good ones from going to the bottom.

Well, if we did that idea, then the same Vets could monitor the top guides and maybe decide to force archive the ones that are outdated?

For now, report them and the mods will investigate and contact the author. If an objective observer can see that the guide is relying on things that no longer exist in the game, then it's easy for us to contact the author and insist that they update it or archive. Otherwise, it's just very subjective. If you do report it, you need to provide details and objective proof that it's outdated, and is harming its readers.

An alternative we're considering but are hesitant to implement is vote decay. It has come up in the past a few times as well. Should a vote that was made 6, 8, 12 months ago, when the guide was fresh, still apply now? Tough call. Decaying votes would force authors to remain active in order to keep the flow of +votes coming, keep things competitive.

It would probably be something like, all votes older than X months get dropped, but your total vote count will never be forced below Y. So you will always keep at least your last Y votes. If your flow of votes has slowed significantly, to the point where you don't have enough votes and hit that Y minimum, then that just means each new vote will replace one old vote and if voting picks up again then you will get back above Y votes. Users that come back and vote again would have their vote "bumped" and added back.

Your score should then more accurately reflect the current state of your guide, a lot more quickly, without having to offset a long history of past votes. We could provide a place for users to see their list of expired votes, if they want to go back and renew them.

Anyways, it needs a lot more thought. We could try an experiment to see how it would affect the listings without actually implementing it, I may do that this week just to see.

We could also look at voting trends to indicate or flag guides that are going down or up. Hadn't thought of that before... Will have to dwell on it a bit.

Also, the scouts are already being awesome by scouting guides so that they get more votes/views. Gotta appreciate what Mobafire does. And not just Vets, but everyone active should be looking for flaws in the system. Everyone should flag/report an obviously outdated guide and show evidence so they get warned (again). As I can see in that GP guide, the author changed nothing else but the masteries (24/6/0 really?).

Then again, I agree with some older posts above. Some outdated guides are still relevant, but it is up to the vets to decide which guides should stay there, and which guides should be forced down (or the author should be given a warning beforehand).
