AD champions in League of Legends need a little lovin' during the lane phase, and for an AD champ to get fed in lane, that character will need to be babysat. I feel that if any Support is going to go bot lane and ruin an opponent's day, it has to be
Taric. His kit is ideal for lane dominance and lane presence by not only dictating when battles start and end, but also having the ability to sustain damage in lane with what could be called the best heal in the game. Here are a few reasons why
Taric is truly, truly one of the best Support champion on Summoner's Rift:
Taric can be successful with 0 Creep Score
Taric's base stats and his
Imbue allow him to stay in lane for a serious amount of time. As a support, your job is to make sure that your AD champ is: alive, kicking, and getting kills. With
Taric, you don't have to be on the front line 24/7 during your stay in bottom lane, you can sit back and keep your AD buddy at full HP. Though an important fact to know:
Taric should be acquiring
Heart of Gold and
Philosopher's Stone to collect 10G every 10 seconds and giving your AD partner all the CS they can collect. Your job as Support is not to take any minions, you should be receiving your gold through assists and GP10 items.
Taric has the Best Healing in the Game
Taric's Q key ability,
Imbue not only grants a decent amount of healing to your specified ally, but also gives back 100% of the heal to
Taric. Meaning you don't need to divide the healing powers to you and your allies when you can heal both people at the same time, a feat that can be done only by
Taric and
Sona. Also,
Taric can reduce the cool-down of
Imbue by one second by attacking minions, and three seconds by attacking champions, allowing aggressive
Taric's to heal more often in lane and team fights.
Imbue's cool-down reducer coincides with
Taric's passive
Gemcraft, which gives back 7.5% Max Mana back to Taric whenever he attacks an opponent. This allows
Taric to not only refresh his Mana pool quicker when attacking minions, but allows almost free casts of
Imbue in lane.
Taric players could use this combo to help their partner get faster CS by attacking higher HP minions to lower them to allow the AD carry to last hit, giving Taric a refreshed Mana pool, both characters in bot lane high on HP, and the AD carry supplied with gold from minions.
Taric can Dazzle Opponents
And by Dazzle, I mean
Dazzle.
Taric's E key ability has a flat 1.5 second stun that can devastate opponents that lack an escape mechanism, specifically AD champions like
Varus,
Kog'Maw, and
Miss Fortune. At level 1, this amount of time combined with proper communication with your partner can almost guarantee First Blood down in bottom lane, or if your team is invading the opponent's Jungler at Blue Buff.
Taric can also do a decent bit of damage with his
Dazzle, doing up to 320 base damage on the stun at the ability's 5th level, allowing some help to your team on damage against the squishier AP Burst/AD Carry opponents. But up all end all,
Taric's
Dazzle provides one ability that I consider the most valuable of all: the ability to
Focus.
Dazzle's 1.5 second stun gives your team the time to focus one character at a time, allowing a 5v4 advantage in team fights, or giving the time to gank an opponent that is over-pushing and punishable. Focusing is a solid tactic for teams that veer more towards the damage side and not the tanky side, where punishing players out of position or defeating players one opponent at a time is the main tactic.
Taric, as well as other champions like
Blitzcrank,
Nautilus, and
Sion are vital in a Focus-heavy team.
Taric is an under-appreciated Pusher
Though
Taric is classified mainly as a Support champion,
Taric combined with his Ultimate,
Radiance, can knock towers down relatively fast.
Radiance gives Taric a AD and AP boost for 7 seconds, as well as giving half of the bonus to allies, which can turn the tide of a team fight, as well as knock down towers faster. At
Radiance's 3rd level, Taric receives a 70AD/AP Boost, with allies getting 35AD/AP boost as well, making bottom lanes of:
Taric &
Sivir (
Radiance with
Sivir's
On The Hunt)
Taric &
Tristana (
Radiance with
Tristana's
Rapid Fire)
and
Taric &
Graves (
Radiance with
Grave's
Quickdraw)
dangerous combinations to work with. With
Radiance providing buffs to
Taric and company,
Radiance also does a flat damage AOE effect to any one near him. This base damage can be ramped up with
Taric's W key ability
Shatter, which not only does flat damage, but reduces the opponent's armor, allow you to do a 1-2 combo with
Shatter and
Radiance following the initiation of
Dazzle, and giving your AD partner and AD Boost, and their enemies with reduced armor, making sure that most enemies do not leave the lane alive after this devastating combo.
This truly outrageous character is chalk full of combos and surprises for the enemy team that bottom lane will have their hands full with
Taric in their lane.
Taric is bound to Dazzle opposing teams and making them think twice about undermining the Gem Knight.
Honestly if you just said "Taric is a great support" or "Taric is my favorite support," this blog would make a lot more sense. I think that's what you're getting at anyway. I came here expecting an argument as to why Taric should be the #1 support pick as opposed to others like Soraka and Alistar.
I went ahead and edited the title to avoid further confusion. :)
The only thing you've shown is that taric is a good support. You can't prove something to be "the best" without making a comparison to anything else.
I guess I should put this as a Disclaimer, but it's LOLBias for a reason. Honestly there's no real BEST character, I'm just listing out the good qualities of said character. If someone wants to know what's good about Taric and how he works, it's here for them.
@JPikachu - That is true, I'll make sure to put that in soon. :)
Yes, you are going to be using it for the armor shred on your opponents, but it helps against poke, and the times when you don't use it are extremely helpful still.

Sona can heal herself and allies too though ^^
FFFF- I'll go edit that now. Also, Soraka I'd say is my Favorite Support, but I've won so many more games with Taric. haha

Also, I think Soraka is a great support, silence, double heal, mana return and aoe MR debuff :3
