Swain isn't an instanuker and requires you to bide your time early game. I think people are more into the wave of high-quickly-seen-damage champs like Leblanc, Fizz (is he in like EVERY match now) or Kennen. He's a tactician, so he lulls with apparantly low DoT which suddenly raeps via full combo + ignite.

Swain is random. You can either be good with him, or just plain suck at him. You can always get better, but in time. He's fun to play.

Swain's AP but no "FACE! - BOOM" caster...
Guess many ppl get demotivated by the fact that they have to "dive" sometimes with a slow fragile caster, while not instant-kill at least one target.
Maybe ppl take it for granted to play a tank-caster but not a caster-tank.

This and the fact sometimes you feel like you're doing no damage because its all DOTs. When in truth you do alot of damage!
