Hello guys I'm new to this site and League of Legends in general and I am having trouble deciding if I should pick a Champion or a particular role (like Jungling) and stick with it until I become level 30 so I can be very good at it or should I try and diversify my play style picking up different roles and Champions as I go along or see fitting so I can useful in any situation but not really as good as other people who have played that job specifically.

The part that I like playing the most is jungling (and a bit of support/tank), helping all over the map and ganking I think it's my thing. But the problem is that in solo que most of the time people choose mostly the Hero/Carry of the game and we are left without Tanks/Supports and we almost always lose because of this. So I wanted to know if it was a good idea to pick a good champion at each job and learn them or specialize in jungling/tank.

Also, for each role which champion you think is generally accepted or good that you could recommend, as of now I play Udyr Jungle and I like his fast clearing times but not having good CC's or gap closers is really killing me.

That is the question really.

I suggest picking up every role well enough that you feel confident playing 2-3 champions in it, and then focus on your favorite one if you intend to climb in Ranked or play more competetively. Or if you just prefer to play it.

Some stuff that is always good:

AP: Karthus, Cassiopeia, Ryze, Morgana
Jungle: Nocturne, Nautilus
AD: Anything really.
Top: Vladimir, Riven, Udyr
Support: Soraka, Janna, Taric

I agree with Luther3000. I also suggest you to learn how to play with each and every role: AP, AD, Jungle, Support, etc. This is to ensure that you'll be able to fill-in something that your team is missing (especially in ranked game).

You should always try each champion during freeweeks. It's not just a matter of finding out who you like and how they fit the roles you enjoy, but it's also the best way to understand their strengths/weaknesses. This is specially important with champs that may go to your favourite lanes versus you.

As for specializing, I think it occurs, but early on you might be pressured to go to places you're not so good/used to. Support, per example, is something a lot of people get "stuck with" since it's not a popular role, albeit a very important one.

So yeah, try having what you like and doing it well, but don't forget the other positions

i also agree with Luther3000. it's always a good idea to try to know. for champions, just try the free champs to decide which ones you like more, then just keep practicing with a couple of champs.

Luther gives good advice, and its the same that ive given to several people who have asked similar questions. learn 2-3 champs per each role fairly well (to deal with insta-locking douche bags in solo q) but have one role that you know VERY well. As far as the champs go, i might add Lee Sin to the list of solo-top/jungle champs you might want to grab and become proficient with, he is just too stronk not to. Other than that, the champ list is a good one.

cass, ryze, karthus, swain for mid; corki, graves, caitlyn for bot; naut, noct, udyr, shyvana, mundo for jungle; janna, soraka, taric for support; lee sin, gangplank, riven, darius, mord for top.

I would've listed more for top but I'm not all that familiar with what's strong/popular there at the moment.

lee sin is just... crazy rofl, always has been, probably always will be. I see him get the ban hammer fairly often.

Shen can go top, jungle, and bot. He has plenty damage and sustain without even trying. Extremely versatile champion with scary map presence.
