I see Jayce players use, whether it's Trinity Force,
Bloodthirster, Frozen Hearts and Infinity Edges...
Even all together, he doesn't seem very strong.
But I must say, I think it can be agreed upon
that he kind of at least demands some source
of tankiness, like a GP, in order to get
anywhere.

I've tested him with different builds a few times now. I really like to jungle with him staring with 
Boots and potions. Using lifesteal quints and masteries and buying a Doran's Blade first time back. Went for a The Brutalizer and I was kinda steamrolling mid game.
Trinity Force is a great item for sure but should not be built too early.

I prefer to play him solo top not sure what items are good other than trinity and maybe some tanky ness.
