I realize just now that DotA2 isn't considered released yet and that is funny considering for hopw long I've been playing it;
Anyway the 2 games will kinda stay on their sides, the LoL comunity that has formed on LoL will be less likely to start playing DotA2 as it is a much more difficult game and 'cause of that actually resoults as less fun.
On the other hand the DotA hardcore players who drifted to LoL are gonna prolly drift off to it.
But basically LoL is gonna remain bigger than DotA in europe and America while DotA will dominate the asian market.

I've played DoTA and watched it. It just wasn't enjoyable for me. Some things were neat about the game, like laning was definitely different. But at the same time LoL just seems like a much more polished version.

I think release of Dota 2 won't affect LoL in any way. Those are simply 2 very different games, with very different playstyles. Some people prefer balance of LoL and some fun of imbalanced Dota heroes. I like both and I think I'll keep playing them both (even though I started with Dota last week).

Fans of dota 2 who have negative comments about lol...as in they dislike it strongly and feel that dota 2 is superior, those people are clinging to something old. As ive experienced and read dota 2 in its current form is dota with a new paint job. Little has changed, and that is a problem. League has provided a more streamlined experience. Something that "haters" will claim makes it "easier". Last i checked making something more complicated is indicitve of an outdated "less optimal" system.

Dota 2 will find its niche fanbase (as it already has for the most part), but it wont overtake lol. League is just too easily accessible for newer players, dota requires a 10 page manual just to figure out how to use a consumeable. Not to mention the lack of a user friendly hud etc.

If dota 2 wanted to take over against lol it would basically have to do what lol does, and even then it would still struggle because, while the champions seem rather diverse, their abilities are some of the most confusing things ive read....maybe im just dumb.

I've been playing in alot of competitive environments, from MTG judging to playing it, and from SC2 Tourneys, to LoL Tourneys... I played Dota back in the day when I was like 8.... Oh gawd was I bad, but I tried... Just didn't know wtf i was doing. I tried to learn, not much sucess and people would just rage at me all the time, and I didn't know why : /. When I turned about 12, i Learned about LoL and I instantly liked it :D It's very new player friendly. And someone at the age of 10 can pick it up and be ok (Not good or great) at LoL. This makes the base of players for LoL SOOOO much bigger then dota2... Its just not even funny....

Dota2 will not overthrow LoL.... It really is just some new graphics AND THATS IT... Nothing IS NEW ABOUT THAT GAME -___-.... It makes me sad really, cause I thought I would give that game a try... But nope, not from what i've read, and seen... It just wont overthrow LoL... Period...
Thanks to everyone that has made me a sig!

That isnt to say dota 2 couldnt evolve before it is officially released, but to improve on what lol has brought to the moba community would require something along the lines of a complete rework of current gameplay. The mechanics are there, and so is the depth of current dota 2 concepts. But the execution leaves a lot to be desired. People complain the the CoD franchise is stale due to the generic fresh coat of paint and minor gameplay tweaks, but many gamers love dota 2 even though the same lack of true innovation exists. Yes cod and dota are 2 seperate game types, but if all vlave is doing is giving dota 2 a new appearance rather than actually making a "new" game, you would think, a majority of the player base who played dota, would feel similarly to those fans of the cod franchise.

All in all dota 2 is still in beta, so valve might do something before the full release...

I played DotA once. I couldn't understand ****. My friend who was trying to give me an idea of how to play was like "use your health potion, you are out of HP, no, you have to click it and then click on a tree and then you get back HP and the tree gets destroyed, and now Mana Drain that guy, no, W won't work, press O, now you died again, and make sure you deny them creeps, and deny them the tower too, top is getting ganked, let's go there, gratz you just used your ultimate on a minion."

Many thanks to MissMaw, LaCorpse, Xiron, Arcana3 and Joxuu for making me sigs!

nope. dota 2 is not going to stray at all from a purist version of dota. except on a new engine.
