Brace yourselves, Summoners.

As the first of many groundbreaking announcements, The Collegiate Starleague is pleased to announce that Azubu, the renowned gaming and game media company, has stepped forward and become an official sponsor of the Collegiate Starleague.

What does this mean for the Collegiate Starleague? It means that this year’s League of Legends finals will have a prize pool of over $90,000.

Yes, $90,000!

This year, the Collegiate Starleague is opening registration up to any students from not only the NA region, but the EU-W and Asia (KR, CN, TW) regions as well. Colleges from across the world will be competing in this first ever global CSL League of Legends final, for a grand prize of $40,000.00 and the right to call themselves the first ever international collegiate League of Legends champions.

Are you excited yet? We sure are!

As it stands, here are the prize pools for the finals this year:

Prizepool
1st place: $40,000
2nd place: $20,000
3rd place: $10,000
4th place: $5,000
5-8th place: $1,000
9-16th place: $500

If that wasn’t enough to whet your appetite, your team has a chance to win a free Azubu-sponsored pizza party!

How can you win? Easy! During your registration, write us a letter, or send us a video, telling us why you think your team deserves to win free pizza. The videos that really sell it the best, wins the glorious cheese-covered feast! 10 teams will earn themselves $150.00 towards a fantastic pre-season kickoff party for your team!

NOTE: You must be a registered team to be eligible to win the Azubu-sponsored pizza party.

Season Timeline

Oct 2 : Registration opens.
Oct 2 -Oct 25 : ‘Food for Thought’ contest to win an Azubu-sponsored pizza party.
Oct 28 : 'Food for Thought' contest winners announced.
Nov 1 : Azubu Collegiate Champions, Rounds 1 and 2 begin.
Nov - Dec : Teams will compete in TWO Bo3 matches per week on Saturdays or Sundays.
Dec - Jan : Playoffs begin and teams compete in ONE Bo5 match per week on Sundays only.
Feb 2 - Feb 3 : Azubu Collegiate Champions LIVE LAN GRAND FINALS held in Southern California, all travel expenses paid for competing teams.
Now, keeping on par with the higher stakes and the bigger prize pool, some of our rules have been modified slightly in order to keep the season flowing smoothly. You can see the full rules page here.

Some of the changes you may notice right away include:
  • Team Lineups being due earlier than in previous seasons. This is done in order to give teams more time to prepare for their opponents. Saturday matches will be due Monday and Sunday matches due Tuesday.
  • Every set is to be played simultaneously, and without observers. This is in order to both speed up play time to accommodate the change to two games, not to mention eliminate the potential problem of ghosting and stream chatting. However, if both teams may agree to allow observers, it will be permitted, but doing so waives the right to dispute a match result due to ghosting and stream chatting.
  • Teams are allowed 3 subs for the entire season. Should a problem within a team that requires it, additional substitutions may be made at the discretion of a CSL admin.

So from here on out...

Starting Oct 2, team coordinators will create and register their team at www.cstarleague.com. Each participating student will register an account on www.cstarleague.com AND www.azubu.com. We will verify student IDs and AZUBU IDs to ensure that all players comply. Please join our Azubu group, "Collegiate League of Legends," to help us facilitate this process. Students then should request to join teams created by team coordinators on www.cstarleague.com.

To complete registration, each team must have a minimum of 5 valid players, a Facebook group, and individual AZUBU accounts. Note that the season will require 5 players, but the playoffs will require 7 players. All students currently enrolled in a North American, European, or Asian/SEA undergraduate or graduate program are eligible for the Azubu Collegiate Champions. Teams must have a minimum of five verified players before entering the league.

Players are cleared for participation by supplying an official school email address. Players can be considered for eligibility for other university teams under special circumstances on a case-by-case basis. Exceptions are only made for players from unusually small schools (total student population <5000) that have a strong affiliation with the larger university, such as a community college with a direct feeder program to a nearby 4-year university.

Want updates?

New teams can sign up and be informed of registration’s opening date by emailing lol (at) cstarleague.com titled “ACC MAILING LIST”. Teams who have played in the CSL before will automatically be sent a reminder email for registration!

Well summoners, what do you think?
Are you up to the challenge?
Will your team come home with $40,000.00?
Will your school be able to proudly boast that they are home to the first global collegiate League of Legends champions?

Get your teams together. We’ll see you on the Fields of Justice.

Sorry mate! You Vikings and Peasants are too much for us to handle!
In reality, excluding EU-Nordic&East allows us to have a nice group-stage system in EU; most competitive EU players play on EU-West as well.

btw james, congrats on your first post!

Thanks mate, I'll be posting more CSL-related information whenever I have the chance. I might make an appearance in some other threads, if I have time!

This is pretty awesome, we got a LOT of LoL players in our Game Design & Technology innovation area. I know one guy is 2350 ELO xD

Speaking of ELO, what range is needed? Or can 5 players with 800 ELO just join as well?
