Normally you could have stomped him so easy if you had jungle presence early ! When I see someone using gap closing to harass me, I always ask my jungler to camp mid and the other lanes to play passive, that way you'll either get free kills after 
Kha'Zix jumps on you with E or shut him down so hard since he won't snowball as hard as an ap carry naturally.
PS: Next time you're not sure if Kha'Zix goes mid or top and you already guessed who's jungling in their team, pick Akali. That way she's a safe pick and not countered that hard, but also can counter Kha'Zix like hell. Just instantly smartcast shroud on you when he jumps, that way he won't be able to Q ! Then trade him inside your shroud with your combo, you have more sustain from passive and hexteck and more armor inside shroud, you'll win every trade :)

I don't understand why people aren't running him as assassin mid like Talon in the first place.
Bruisers at top rape him and are too tanky to assassinate, his jungle sucks, and he's definitely not a good support or ranged ADC.

Kha'Zix before :O. I build him similarly to Talon but I didn't think Kha'Zix would be a good mid. His only ranged ability is Void Spike which only fires in one straight line( un-evolved) and is easily blocked by minions or dodged with boots. Then minions respawn and go back to mid lane faster so it's harder to get the enemy isolated from time to time. He also doesn't have a silence to prevent taking a lot of burst once he's in melee range of the enemy AP carry. Still, these are just my theories so I will give mid Kha'Zix a try whenever I have the chance.

Doing 'fine' isn't enough for an assassin.
You want to be able to crush your lane enough so that you can gain enough map presence to roam, and help out other lanes by killing their laners to snowball into an advantage.
Doing 'fine' means you're even in farm and neither side is really doing anything to the other, which makes you lose games as ALL assassins fall off late game.
