Just a word to all, archiving this guide is rapidly becoming a serious possibility since I literally never play Garen anymore and I simply can't speak for what's best on him since he is no longer part of my Top lane roster :(.

I would just like to thank everyone who has commented with their appreciation and/or upvoted this to eventually becoming the #1 Garen guide!! It was a very long journey to get there and as much as I'd like to continue having the #1 spot it simply isn't fair to both the readers and other Garen authors since the vast majority of this was written over a year ago (aka it might not be optimal anymore) and I haven't kept it properly updated for a loooong time. There's quite a bit of content from Season 2 still kicking around :P.

Its been a lot of fun and hopefully I've helped a lot of people out there to become better with Garen but I think this guide's time has come and so unless a lot of people for some reason beg me to keep it up then this will probably be archived in the next couple of days.

I have question about the masteries part for your build :3
The Masteries part at the top is different than the one at the details section.

Both of you have a point, Boots of Swiftness does help Garen with kiting problems and alongside Decisive Strike and Relentless , makes slows very ineffective against you; and should be taken against certain matchups. But General is right when he says defensive boots are the core option because of the tenacity or AA damage reduction; he is also correct about Randuin's Omen being a better option than Warmog's right now, it not only does give HP but also armor and a great passive/active, Warmog is now a very situational item since it gives no resistances and is destroyed by Blade of the Ruined King. Yes, Black Cleaver should be finished before IE.

Now, for the author, you should have added in the "farming" on Garen vs Lee Sin that most top lane Lee Sin players are building Ravenous Hydra which makes his pusing ability much stronger.

Boots of Swiftness help Garen to stick with his opponents and counter a bit his kiting issues. It's not a bad choice against some particular compositions.

I think Boots of Swiftness shouldn't be used at all, and Ninja Tabi or Mercury's Treads should be standard boots and Randuin's Omen should replace Warmog's Armor. Also Black Cleaver should be bought before Infinity Edge. Else the guide is good, just the items could use some tweaking after myself having tried a similiar Garen build
