Diana's Q and Ahri's orb pass through minions, so you just need to be in range to use them. You don't really need to set them up, just getting close works fine.
What can really help is to watch how your enemy last hits. It's much easier to hit your target during that split second that they stand still to autoattack than when they're moving.
Try to watch how enemies dodge your skillshots, too. If you can start to predict how they'll react, you'll be able to shoot at where they'll dodge to rather than where they are, which will mean that you'll land more shots.

When it comes to landing you
Charm every person you fight will react differently so like Lifebaka said just watch them and get a feel for how they are going to dodge you. It just takes practice also playing dominion can help to the games are a lot faster and it's as big of deal when you miss your skill shots, so that's at least where I go to practice them

You don't always need to land
Crescent Strike to
Lunar Rush your enemies. If your team is any good at followups, you can R to a displaced target,
Moonfall him and let your team devour said target. You use
Pale Cascade once damage starts coming in to defend yourself and deliver the hurt.

It's much easier to hit skill shots if you are being chased or if your opponent is being the aggressor. Evaluating your players movements when hitting for that minion kills is also an effective way to harass. Avoid trading, you want to be doing more damage, if they are trading with you on your harass and doing more damage it is pointless to try fighting them. Eventually you can predict your opponents moves and don't be scared to use mana.

I'm a level 14 semi-hardcore gamer that's recently got back into the game. i really enjoy playing and i rotate between Ahri and Diana. Im just wondering if i can get some tips on movement. i seem to telegraph my next skill against an enemy champion resulting in me not being able to harass them very much. With diana i find it hard to land my crescent strike since the enemy generally notices me setting up to do it and with Ahri i have the same issue with Orb/charm.
any pointers on setting up skill shots or getting a position to land one?
thanks
