In the guide "Vladimir, Mid Carry (RANKED BUILD: POST NERF) IN DEPTH+" guide, which is the top Vladimir guide in this site, there's a section called "Mischiveous Mid Lanes & Other Opponents".

In this section, it talks about different opponents and how to beat them. However, in this section, Fizz appears and it says:
Quoted:
Difficulty: Impossible
There is no hope. Leave the game.

Why is that? What's the reason? I have never actually played against Fizz in any of my games, so I have no clue if this is true or a joke. Can someone clarify and tell me why, please? =)

Given my lack of experience with Vladimir and Fizz I can't say with one hundred percent certainty, but in general I know Fizz is well known as a good counter against vladi just like Swain is and for a similar reason: DoT skills. His damage over time effects from Seastone Trident not only will effect you even if you Sanguine Pool but it will also effect your ability to heal not to mention his Playful / Trickster allows him to avoid a lot of vladi's damage all together. Fizz is definitely a good counter for Vladimir. I don't know if I would just give up though...I mean the fizz player could be a less skilled player with Fizz XD

It's hyperbole. You're merely extremely unlikely to win lane against a competent Fizz.

Fizz's %hp damage and heal debuff are very strong against Vlad. In order to counter his burst, you'll probably want to build HP, which lets him do more damage to you. You also really want to sustain in lane, and his heal debuff makes that hard. Fizz also has way more burst damage than Vlad does, so he'll out-trade you for the entire game. Fizz can also roam better than Vlad can and can dive you under tower without much difficulty due to his mobility and burst.

Fizz mostly is going to counter you by forcing you to take non-optimal build paths on Vlad, if you can avoid having him just kill you all the time. You'll probably want to rush Spirit Visage or something like Warmog's Armor, for instance, which means that you won't do as much damage early on. But later it won't matter as much, since a lot of your utility is just about landing your ult on their team at the start of a fight.

Also, it doesn't look like that guide is up to date. It doesn't acknowledge the league of Warmog's, doesn't include Liandry's Torment as an upgrade for Haunting Guise, and still has Force of Nature as a valid MR choice.

Swain is not that great of a counter to Vlad. Vlad will just outpush him all day, forcing Swain to burn mana to farm. There's pretty much nothing Swain can do about it, either, because Vlad should be able to dodge all of Swain's roots without too much difficulty. If you're against a Swain who's becoming a problem, just build Morellonomicon. The MP5 is useless on you but the rest of the stats are still fine, and you should be able to keep the healing reduction up pretty much 100% of the time if you stagger maxed Q and E on him.

Vlad is weak against champions who have high damage and gap closers at levels 1-5.

Fizz has both.

Also, Fizz can troll pole Hemoplague and reduce your healing.

If Vlad tries to shove lane he'll almost always be in range for Fizz to engage.

If Vlad tries to harass Fizz can simply engage and possibly kill Vlad because of his high damage.

@lifebaka,
I've never once lost lane to a vlad when I play Swain. Matter of fact, if I see that they pick a vlad, I instalock Swain to counter him for a number of reasons. First, his superior range for AAs and all of his abilities, and second the dots which still effect vlad while he is pooled. He has the health regen to win the balls to the wall duels with Ravenous Flock. If the vlad pushes like crazy to try to force a swain to use mana to farm, then he is wide open for ganks, which a well placed Nevermove will ensure success on. After you get a Hextech Revolver on swain, the sustain is equally well on either side, but the swain will still do more damage simply because he can hit vlad with Torment whenever he wants, whereas vlad has to be in much closer range to deal any damage, at which point the swain can just blow all his spells and very easily win that engagement as long as he is lvl 4 or higher. Just IMO.

And the reason vlad loses to fizz is that all his abilities put him in range of fizz' dash, which sets him up for his burst combo. Fizz out bursts vlad any day of the week at any level, and he will always win 1 on 1 engagements, especially after lvl 6. Thats why it's "impossible" to win a lane against fizz, you don't 'win' it, you 'survive' it by being passive and farming as much as you can.

Nicely said :) I agree on both accounts. +1 rep
