One Piece, lol.

Do not for the love of god watch this anime. It has garbage animation and while the story is amazing enough to carry the entire anime, it's just ripped straight from the manga.
Do yourself a favor and READ the manga. It's one of the most amazing literary works I've come across and is well work your time if you can handle the adult themes (people die, a lot).

Do watch this. It's a lot of fun. I'd suggest watching Fullmetal Alchemist first, though, since FMA:B does assume that you know most of where they overlap and speeds you through all of that content.

Code Ge***
You can skip these, really. Clannad was pretty fun for its first section, where the main character played a lot of practical jokes on his supporting cast, but after that it got more serious and lost most of its early charm. Clannad: After Story was waaaaaay too serious and depressing, without any of what made the first series fun and without a really engaging plot or characters. If you really like the early parts of Clannad, you might be able to get into the series, but I'd honestly skip the second series either way.
Code Ge*** suffers from not understanding that it isn't a ****ing mecha anime. It'd be better if it wasn't trying (and failing) to be a mecha anime.

Skip this. It's pretty boring. I couldn't finish the first season, and I am perfectly capable of watching and enjoying bad anime.

Gosick
Skip this, as well. It's a mediocre male-detective-and-young-female-helper anime. I'm not a fan of that particular trope, myself, but I'm sure there are better examples of it than this.

Lolz. I have yet to see a good really-long-running anime. Period. If it's longer than 60 episodes, it's never better than decent.
I'll see about getting a scanalation of the Berzerk manga, Searz. As long as it doesn't feature any stupid rape scenes, I should be fine.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is far better than the altered fullmetal alchemist they 'released' first, I would highly suggest watching it with the japanese voice actors though...much better.
Definitely true with the 60 episodes or less for anime...if they have more than that..most likely they are just a **** ton of filler episodes.
Fullmetal, Cowboy bebop, and Samurai Champloo will most likely be my favorite anime series forever :/

1. It's a male protagonist (helper? lol, he is in love with her, not her assistant) and not-so-young genius detective girl (she's 16). (Seems like you didn't really watch it.)
2. Mediocre? I'm afraid that's your personal opinion. Last time I checked, it's rated 8.29/10 and ranked #205. I personally liked it by the way.
3. The cases she solves are amazing, they are actually well-plotted and thrilling, arguably one of the best mystery (detective) animes ever made.
Find me a better mystery/detective anime with a bit of romance and comedy like Gosick and i'll take back what I said.
(Mushishi and Hyouka don't count because they are...let's say "original").

Yup, trust this guy on the "skippables", he's a lot better at critique than Cuddles.

There were one time where I remember feeling that it was kinda unnecessary, but they usually don't detract from the story, in fact several ones are important to the story and setting. It's set in the "middle ages" after all and the theme is pretty dark in general.
Batoto doesn't have all the volumes, but it has the best quality:

If you want something similar without any kind of rape, go read Shingeki no Kyojin. That's my other favorite. Berserk and Shingeki no Kyojin are just in a league of their own. I love them both.

For those interested in the art of Berserk:
It's pretty meh for a few volumes, but it gets better, a LOT better. Miura is now probably one of my favorite artists, not just one of my fav story writers.

What I've seen of the anime is decent(no Cuddles, not good), but the manga is pretty good.

I know that I wasn't enamored of the show and didn't get more than a couple of episodes in (both of which contribute to me not bothering to remember the details), so I suppose I could have let my bias out more than I intended. But the rating and rank you mention appear to be from MyAnimeList.net, which isn't... What I would call reliable. For example, it lists Fairy Tail (which I am currently watching and enjoying, but is still mediocre) at 8.33/10 and at #175, higher than Gosick, and I wouldn't even consider some of their top 10 good, so I'd rather we simply not point to those numbers as being at all meaningful.
(Hell, Clannad: After Story is listed at #4, and it's not the 4th best anime ever by any stretch of the imagination. I imagine it's only that high because only people who enjoyed the first season, and are therefore much more likely to enjoy the second season, even bother watching it.)
So Gosick is probably better than I made it out to be. Like virtually all anime, however, I still can't honestly suggest it unless you happen to enjoy the sort of anime that it is.
