no magikarp isnt useless because it evolves into gyarados, which is more useful than useless snorlax will ever be

also froslass is one of the better ice type pokemon to me but i still dont like it

Lol, you don't have a clue.
Snorlax is definitely in a league above Gyarados for normal play.

I remember body slam + sleep was really annoying. I think it all comes down to what skills you teach them.
