I personally like Rengar, because his clear speed is pretty good and his ganks level 6 are amazing. you can just run straight up the lane with your Thrill of the Hunt and gank. It's awesome.
Also, Rengar is a good top champion, while Hecarim falls in that aspect.

Rengar if you want to stalk, go around the teamfights and jump on carry (can be made tanky too) Hecarim if you want to break the oponents teamfights with fear and just charge your way to the target (also tanky or damage like)personally i like hecarim more because its brings
Onslaught of Shadows to teamfights, which can also be used to chase or save teammates

I prefer Hecarim, cuz I'm a very destructive person and I love to overuse the Onslaught of Shadows and the Devastating Charge :3
But.. I think Rengar is better for people, who likes to go Top or Bot, Hecarim is a perfect Jungler, but it's hard to play top line with him.

Rengar is a semi-assassin bruiser who sticks onto a carry.
Hecarim just does massive aoe disrupt and damage. Also doesn't work well in top lane.
Hecarim is a stronger teamfighter overall (sustained AoE damage and his ultimate) but Rengar can potentially instagib their AD or AP carry. Might be worth knowing that Hecarim banned pretty frequently in gold-plat.
