Depends on your enemy top. If AP I get a chalice. Against an AD maybe a philo or spirit stone and build into elder lizard or golem. If your losing i would def go with the philo
Also pretty sure Tiger stance is OP for 1v1's atm. Dont use Udyr for laning so could be wrong

I Play him top and often have great success, I Max
Wilding Claw first though,
Iron Mantle always just one step behind.
Marks and quints of attack damage. (not APen)
glyphs and seals armour and magic res.
Masteries I go for a strange but effective 15/15/0 because I build him like a tank but I really want to squeeze out that damage, making sure to get
Fury
Weapon Expertise
and
Arcane Knowledge
because Tiger does magic damage and I want that to hurt.
then in defense I get the health armour magic resist and crowd control ones..
Ingame I'll often rush
Wriggle's Lantern despite the fact im not jungling, its great on Udyr anyway and the ward really helps, I'll get
Mercury's Treads
then I'll go for either
Frozen Mallet or
Trinity Force the
Sheen really helps.. Then it's full tank,
Runic Bulwark and things like that.
Randuin's Omen
Spirit Visage
Banshee's Veil
Early game the damage is brilliant, it falls off later game but you can still hurt a lot with a couple of tigers.. the main use later game is to tank and stun enemys for your team, peel them off your adc, attack their adc..
Just realised I went off on a tangent and you wanted to know about his mana issues.. They really hurt me too, but as long as you don't spam your stances, you should be ok, try and keep in turtle stance while you farm.. opponents still seem to avoid poking a surprising amount when you're in turtle despite the fact it gives no defense after your shields gone..

if your taking udyr top lane and not into the jungle how do u deal with his mana issues?
spamming stances drains me too quickly and what gain i can get in the lane i lose as soon as i go back for more mana.
been starting:
boots & pots x 3
then rush tear
and standard top lane wards/pots etc from there
building with phoenix stance as main skill so core items are sunfire cape, wits end, omen, runic bul, boots and situational.
should i scrap tear and replace with sheen and take something out of here to build up iceborn?
is there a better way to do this? or should i just abandon making top udyr a viable option for myself?
thoughts?
lemme know
