Thresh is the best support atm, his pros are obvious (lot of CC, high damage output, etc) and he virtually has no cons. If you're blue team always pick him if you're purple always ban him. He's good against any support/carry, might have trouble with just a couple. Thresh is somewhat vulnerable to constant poke so champions like Yorick or maybe Lulu are difficult ish to lane against.I recommend a different rune setup for you, though. 1-13-16 should would better. Armor Marks, Armor Seals, Flat MR Glyphs, GP10 Quints would be a somewhat standard rune setup for support.
Other good supports are
Sona, Lulu, Leona, etc list goes on, but Thresh is definitely the best right now.

Blitzcrank imo is just a less rewarding version of thresh. Also, Blitzcrank offers less defensive utility to your team compared to thresh. Dark Passage is just toooo good.
For instance, Rocket Grab < Death Sentence. If you rocket grab an Amumu into your team, you just made your team lose a team fight. However, the duration of the stun on Death Sentence + the pull back gives enough of a window to start/force a team fight if you want to.

I personally have been playing sona and nami i just like the fact that i can heal and do some poke with them and there ults are nice for getting away or team fights.
my rune set up gives me +4.6 MR +2.8 Armor +1.6mp5 + -.60% cdr amd +5.3gp 10
my masteries are0/3/27
the 3 in D are health regen for early sustain and then the 27 give me movment, mana regen and gold, i get the free biscute and sight ward and extra gold
