League of Legends (LoL) Question: Why do players form "competitive teams" when they aren't high elo

Why do players form "competitive teams" when they aren't high elo

Just a general question I have. Not intending to insult or undermine anyone's efforts in creating a team - just curious why so many people all make their own teams to compete in contests when they're unranked, silver, gold, or low plat.

IMO it should be quite clear that players with suboptimal understandings of the game won't advance far as a team... Idk I knew that since I was silver that there was a huge gap between competitive and soloq and that competitive play required strong fundamentals and mechanics for each respective role each player plays.

When I play ranked 5's with my friends I don't think we're even considered competitive because we all realize we're bad..

Idk can someone clear this up for me?

I'm sure low ranked players who play in tournaments just do it for the experience. It can be fun to test your mettle against really good players with your friends and a lot of the teams I've played against that were low elo were surprisingly humble losers and many of them asked for advice and such. I think when a bronze team enters a tournament, they just want to have fun together and learn from people better than them.

As for the term "competitive", I think most people just use that to mean they take their team seriously and want to improve, not that they're professional material. A competitive bronze team might be more demanding of its members in terms of time commitment and attitude than just a casual bronze team who play ranked whenever they have enough people on.

I am unranked atm my goal is to be gold at the end of the season, doubt I will get there, but me and a friend started a ranked team for twisted treeline, and I think the reason why is people prefer to play with premade teams over skype, vent, or raid call. It's also funner to play games with friends over strangers any day

    FOR THE MONEYS.
No seriously the real reason why they would bother to form "competetive teams" is the same reason
why everyone rages at their teammates.
Everybody playing this game wants to be like DiamondProx, Froggen, Maknoon, Doubelift and Edward.

Everybody wants to be able to become a billionaire simply off playing videogames.
Low skilled players want to know how they match up against other people and if these players are below a pro(like hotshotgg) in skill level they only have to play a few thousand games before they become better than these pros, but they do not realize the fact that they won't get there with their current skill level if they play ranked 5s.

    TL;DR
    THEY ARE DELUSIONAL

if somebody thinks he plays on a competitive level when he is in bronze 5, just dont take him serious. i play mainly for the fun and the more the better and if we get a full team, why not play a few rankeds together? i mainly do it for fun, not because i call myself or our "team" competitive.

    Ignorance.

A bronze 5 player will be able to say that Zilean AD is OP since he wins matches playing that. He will write a guide about it and rage against everyone that says that he is an idiot, because when he plays it, he actually wins.

A lvl 10 person will throws stupid advices everywhere on forums since those advices work on his level. Though if you would play it at lvl 30 + higher divisions, you would notice that the advices are quite stupid, and that the guy had put a lot of people off track, because there will always be noobies out there that are willing to take any advice.

A lvl 30 gold 5 team will say they are amazing, since they are better than 50% (or even more) of the league of legends community. They will say they are the best team in the world, since they are so special that they already reached that far. Problem is, there are people who are more special than they are, with an even higher division. Woops, forgot about that.

tl;dr: People think they know everything since they win lanes and games on lower levels. That is why they think it is not possible that anyone can be any better than they are, which is why they call themselves competative/skilled/whatsoever.

Oh, and there is also blind hope, like a lottery ticket :P

I do believe ignorance is a part of the answer, but in another way then you claim. I do believe that lots of people blame their soloqueue teammates for their losses and try to get a team to not have that issue (basically because they believe they are better) - but I am 100% sure they don't think themselves as the best because everybody watches LCS nowdays, or at least know the level in the pro scene.

I think that people say competitive to give them a sound of legitimacy or they honestly think they can play at a competitive level, also sometimes it might just mean competitions like the community cups here at MobaFire or something.

I personally think that people create team because the community on lol is so bad that comes a point when you just never want to play with random players again.

Even if you aren't good the experience is just way better as no one rages nor leave during the game and that is the least you could expect of a normal player.

We've been playing quite a bit with some friends and although we did not do so well I really miss this because now that I play with matchmaking it just feels so bad and random

I have no idea who you're playing with Twitch but all my matches are filled with nice people. I'm not particularly bad but I don't see people yelling at other players even if they go really negative.

I think it is because they want to play with their friends. It is like a living dream to become professional and play with your friends. I don't see anything wrong with it.

Some of them just want the tournament experience, or to improve their gamplay. But many times happnes that in a group of friends, one of them reaches Diamond V. He is good at this game, but his friends are Bronce, Silver or Gold. They are not that good. Usually happens, when a friend of yours becomes a pro player, that you think you can be as good as he is.

It happens in other areas. There are a lot of guys playing soccer, that think about a professional: "I used to play with him. He wasn't that good".

I'm with Psi on this one, I'm still in Bronze (and honestly, I haven't played enough recently, so moving up is not going happen right now), but I have always wanted to get 5 people together to form a "competitive" team. Not that we can compete at the LCS level, but that we can be competitive with the other teams we are facing, if that means we end up in B5, or G1, or where ever, I just want a team that will consistently give me a fighting chance. I don't want to be on a team that wins every game, that gets boring after a while, I want a team that can do well against equally skilled opponents, in short, compete. Thats why I would use "competitive" to describe a team I was on, a team that can compete with other teams of similar skill, and that is constantly working to get better.

Well I'll tell you that I play competitively because, to me, that is the only way to have fun. I play solo Q to practice mechanics and try and become a decent player, I play Ranked 5's with strangers and my friends to practice communication, I play with my "competitive team" to really prove to myself that my hard work will be rewarded. I've only been lvl 30 for a while and this is my 1st MOBA.

I've played at the low end of the amateur Esports for COD (Which is honestly the worst one of them all) Starcraft Brood War, Starcraft 2, Counterstrike GO (I found out about CS Source too late in the game).

Basically to answer your question I love Esports and I want to get my feet wet in as many places as possible :) I've won a little money from my games and although I won't be like the LCS teams living in my own mansion and all but I want to play at my best for everything I do. I get harped on for being in Bronze 1 and trying to play competitively but every player starts here at the bottom and works their *** off to get to that stage and play in front of the whole world. Sure I outplay some kids at my level but I won't go around saying that means I can smash doublelift (I play the ADC for my team, and PS double lift fan <-- That way).

I remember when I put out a guide for Miss Fortune on this very site during season 2 and placed black cleaver in the guide and all I got was people emails and inboxs about how I'm bad and should learn to play before writing guides. 2 weeks later Season 3 rolls in and it's nothing but league of cleaver and my build is used by Crs Cop for the first few weeks of the LCS. It made me happy to know that I have an understanding of the game just not the skills to apply it, and that is what separates me and all the low end amateurs from being pro. I can't get to that level unless I start here at the low end of competitive play where there are other players like me who are ready to fight to get to the top.

TL;DR - I love Esports and although our skill gap is quite clear from the pros, to get to their level of play I need to start somewhere. I don't care that I'm only Bronze 1, my experience from those events carries over into my Solo Q and allows me to progress quickly to the point where if I put the time and effort in I could essentially be a "true" competitive player.

I know that maybe a lot of persone can flame me for saying that or just ignore me, but i dont really care about elo, unranked or any other(silver gold plat ecc) cause i think that ranked stats can help to know if a person can play good or not, but its not all. Being silver or gold or whatever dosent mean u are just better then anyone else, a lot of people say "this bronze 5 go play normals" or they just flame, but for me isnt that important, idk how many people higher then my "elo" and league i met that they were just more bad then me, but i cant say if is like that because u know that we cant just play every game and be ever "legendary" and carry own team, there bad games where u just suck without a good reason, i think this happened to all. Now i dont want to say that im in right, i just say that i dont care so much about elo or whatever cause for me isnt all that count when someone judges a player. Sorry for my bad english and if i didnt clearly explain all.

Well, I play in ranked teams as well simply because it is fun (basically, playing to win and improve is the same as you do in soloqueue, but then without the ******ed teammates and the game being more tactical).

We play tryhard, because we want to win - and because it gives a good feeling when you beat teams with higher-plats / diamonds (which for me has happened a few times). We try to discuss each others mistakes in order to improve. For me, that is a fun experience.

I play Go4Lols as well. We know we are never going to win, just see it as a challenge to get as far as possible (and for the 'honor' of possibly playing against a few semi-pro teams)

Thanks for the answer. I was kinda leaning towards the type of people who like go participate in go4lols and other official tournies tho. I play rnaked 5s with my friends for fun too ^ ^

That is the reason why I play ranked 5's too. Mainly for the fun but I also like the fact that you're communicating to 4 people you know. When you win a game you almost get like a euphoria rush, sort of like winning a sports game. (football, baseball, etc.)
