You'd have to ask someone that is more into that genre than I am, someone who has the patience to wade through all the crap. Lifebaka maybe? Toradora! managed to do something that Nodame Cantabile couldn't do in three seasons: actually fucking end. Extensive Engrish in my anime also kills me these days, which doesn't do Nodame Cantabile any favors. [/quote] Toradora! is definitely up there, at least. It's a very solid romcom, as romcoms go. Most of its problems are endemic to the genre as a whole, and it does manage to pull off 25 episodes without overstaying its welcome. But it's about even with several other series, as far as I can tell, which brings differences down to personal taste and other unknowable factors. Although, honestly, I wouldn't say that there are any straight romcoms that number among the absolute best anime.[/quote]

Of course [i]Toradora![/i] is way better, and it's true that [i]Nodame Cantabile[/i] kinda left us hanging. But compared to generic romcoms ([i]Oreshura[/i] for example), it's quite decent. I don't really get bothered by the engrish ([i]Steins; Gate[/i]'s engrish was pure gold actually) so, yea, at least [i]Nodame Cantabile[/i] started pretty solid compared to your regular romcom. A few seconds ago you made a trilion jokes about Ed's height and then you suddenly have a flash back about a dead mother and trying to resurrect her with alchemy and losing a leg and a body.. I mean come on, where was the build up? ._. Then AFTER that happens, episode ends as lighthearted as ever.. Mr. Armstrong goes to visit Ed in the hospital to do what exactly? show off his pecs? And then I saw a scene of some chick in black sounding all mysterious and telling a chubby..err thing*cough gluttony *cough* not to eat strange stuff.. I mean, they could've started the build up for that bunch soooooo much better. You don't just go from a stupid guy with a blonde mustache showing off his pecs to introducing an evil organization type of thing.. Basically my question was does the show contain more humor like this? Does it actually get serious? I'm just asking because I don't like comic relief to this extent. When some jokes we're made in shinsekai yori, psycho pass or zetsuen no tempest they weren't like this at all.. They didn't offset the mood nor were they over exaggerated.. I'm sorry but I expected a very serious plot, I'd think the characters would be a lot more worried and devoted to returning their bodies to normal.. I thought the beginning was light hearted to prepare you for the next darker parts, but after the flashback when things we're supposed to get heated up.. I see someone showing off his pecks to cheer up a person who was stabbed and in the hospital.. I guess I was just expecting too much.. question still stands though.[/spoiler][/quote]
