When I opened the first review shop years ago, there were no problems with the system, people understood that a review could take x amount of days, may not result in an upvote etc. Nowadays review shops are opening up from all sorts of people, who generally follow the same sort of rules. Review shop owners are not "breaking rules" per se, but there are a few customers taking advantage of review shops.

I originally got the idea from Young Writers Society, wherein these were the rules:

Quoted:
Will Review For Food > Forum rules
1. Only two review requests every few days.
2. Be considerate. Before requesting a review, write a few reviews yourself.
3. Return the favor. If someone reviews your work, review theirs.
4. If creating a new request thread, be specific about what you will review.

The most important rule, however, was "Only two review requests every few days". This meant that the review forum wasn't flooded by one person requesting a review from every single shop. One, how are they going to edit their work to reflect every single review in the period of a few days? Two, aren't they wasting people's time by making them review the same guide, one that hasn't been edited yet?

So, tldr; if you're going to request a review, have some common sense. Request a review from one or two shops, and then stop. Read the review, and fix your guide. Then come back and ask some other people for a review. Don't spam.

Thanks for reading :)

What people like:
Improvement

What people like even more:
Upvotes

What people most of the time think about their guides:
Best thing evur

People will quickly consult with as many review shops as possible to get dem upvotes and get high up in the list without changing a lot to your guide (sometimes this tactic even works), but like you said, improvement will be minimal. Review shops will repeat the same stuff that is wrong in that particular guide.

Now, indeed, if you take 1 review shop at the time, the improvement will be much bigger. Like I explained in my Guide on Getting Views, the more improvement means the more quality guide means the more upvotes you will get. Which basically means, that if you take 1 review shop at the time, you will surpass the guy that did all review shops at the same time. It is a bit longer and slower process, but it is definately worth it :D

Tl;dr; patience is a virtue.

I really don't think submitting a single request entry on topics that are specifically made for requests is flooding. Or so I thought, sorry if I am mistaken. Also, after spending more than an entire day writing a guide, I don't think the 5 lines posted on multiple topics is too much to put up with.

My suggestion:
Make a central topic for all requests, and reviewers can hand pick the ones they want to?

Well actually, I made this post due to Rose's blog. Review shops should not be seen as places to get "easy upvotes", but places where one can learn what needs to be improved about their guide.

Edit: Skae, that's a great idea, but many of the reviewers have different grading systems and ideas of what they want in return. Additionally, it's best for a guide to be reviewed once by one person, and then by another AFTER the author has made changes. Six reviews all saying "you spelt xx wrong" is pretty useless, compared to six staggered reviews, all pointing out different things.

^It's just the fact that now everyone who reviews it will point out the same mistakes and when you probably will fix them they don't bother to point out the mistakes that now exist or are more showy.

Well, basically it's the same rules as the Signature & Art forum; you don't request five different artists to make the same signature, it's considered a little impatient ^^

These rules are suggestions to keep this forum running smoothly and fairly :)

It is not a problem that it is too much work for us, at least, it isnt a problem for us at all :P
It is just that the author may benefit much more from having 1 review per day or something, instead of all of them in an hour :P

Could work. Then we just have different "companies"

For example, Janitsu, me and some other dudes could make the company "Thou path is clear"
Peanut, Wallnut and Doughnut can start a company "Are you nuts?"

Something like that, that the smaller fast food tents become Burger King, KFC and McDonalds :3
One biggy for everything wouldn't work well though.

I think this should be stickied to prevent other users from abusing the review shop services. Or at least, there should be some consideration as to forming some rules for review services, seeing as there are so many review shops now open.
