Good idea, but i think this has a turnside. People will probably only focus on their role and are not that much encouraged pick up a diffrent role. Also, i expect that a lot of mostly played roles might be getting a lot of queue time. And what about people selecting AP mid to pass that queue and instead go Jungle? Questions questions...
Although i do agree with you that the fighting over roles sometimes makes me stop playing SoloQ and go for ARAM. I love ARAM just for the no nonsense, just play environment.
Overall a good idea!

I was thinking of the same idea. I thought about how Riot could include a "Choose Your Role
Before You Queue Up" option. I would assume this would similar to how you queue up for a dungeon in World of Warcraft, you can select whether you want to be a Damage, Tank, or Healer player therefore no one is confused and you just go in there and complete your dungeon. Now in League of Legends you can just choose whether you want AD Carry, Jungler, Mid Lane, Support, or Top Lane and you play on from there. Everything would be much simpler and games would be more fun in my opinion.

It'd probably work better if it made the games with people who have selected different roles and the template I'd use for it is this:
I'd like to play *insert role here*
If I can't, I'd like to play *insert role here*
If that isn't possible, I can probably play *insert role here*
I'd like to play *insert role here*

Actually... this is even better, this way if you Queue up for Mid Laner or Top Laner you aren't stuck their waiting for more support to queue up or something along those lines.
This isn't a new idea, but I do like it
pros
Playing what you want to play
having a decent team comp
Cons
Long queue times
People picking champs that aren't best for that role
people arguing about the meta
Everyone playing AP mid and top
WOW did this and it worked great for the most part for healers and tanks, but everyone else had awful queue times, I wouldn't really want to see it in ranked, but for normals I think it would be fun

So you are forced to be punished with wait time for wanting to play the role everybody else wants to play or you get in the game quickly playing a role that nobody wants to play.
In general, most people just want to blow somebody else up.
I personally like the idea.

It would make the meta almost unchangeable... I remember a time when it was standard to have 2 bruisers in botlane, an ADC in midlane, etc... if this was implemented back then it would be much more similar to that today

In every match people fight over who called what first, which leads to lots of trolling and raging. Heck, you can't even plan what you wanna play unless you're really good at calling things first. Even then an argument will break out.
So I was thinking, why not let players choose what role they can/want to play before champion select? So they would be matched up with people who want to play another role.
That way, hopefully this stupid behaviour would stop.
Thoughts? Does this behaviour annoy you as well? Any other ideas come to mind?
