You made me think about why I like dryad soraka so much so I decided to share my thoughts :p
When I see that artwork the first thing that strikes me is her eyes. I get a feeling that she's either staring in to my soul or about to cast a really dangerous spell. Her eyebrows are a little titled so she looks angry however her facial expresion as a whole gives me a feeling of sadness. A face someone would make when they wish to destroy (or kill) after losing something important. She also seems like a naive person that's currently betrayed..
The glow in her hands seems to be some kind of spell and that further adds up to the overall setting. Her hair and cape floating upwards indicate that a lot of energy is flowing through her/around her.
Overall I believe it's a very powerful picture that also conveys innocence and sadness, which is why I like it. Also no big boobs :3
I suppose sexualisation is a part of the fantasy of LoL's art. Speaking of Nami and Zyra, well, Zyra is somewhat of a femme fatale. Okay, she's not going to be seducing anyone, but she has the "sinister sexy" and it suits her history as a flesh eating plant that would lure prey into itself and devour them. Nami's weird boobs, a blatant sexualisation, while not necessarily being relevant to her design, do not, or so I feel, compromise her design (unlike 'Raka's stupid face and pose).

Reading what you've typed, I think I'm probably clouding my judgement of Soraka's art based on what I want her character to be (pre-rework, or actually, I thought of a blend between her old and new that works nicely) and what it actually is. I still think her art compromises her design, but probably not to the extent that I initially see it.

In-game, sure. It has to do with LoL's isometric viewpoint. That, primarily, is why in-game boobs tend to be large. But that's not got much to do with splash art.

i think biscuit is on target with his analysis. bottom line though women have been depicted as objects/sexual beings/etc. in everything since i can remember. nearly every advertisement that is directed towards men has a woman in it in some capacity hinting the idea that if you purchase this product you will get laid more....and men still buy into it...LOL.
video games play to the audience. who is the audience? mainly adolescent boys. does every adolescent boy like exaggerated features on a woman? no...but more do than don't. the good news is that since i started playing games (long time ago) the demographic has shifted and more and more women are playing games which is awesome.
I do have to say that more times than not the way women are depicted in games does indeed objectify them, but that too seems to be getting better as you see more female heroines than you used to.
lets not censor games...there is a rating system for a reason...let artists be artists...whatever that may mean..have you ever been to an abstract art showing? this **** is child's play to some of that stuff.
TV is far worse regarding the depiction of women imo than video games. this stuff is just coming to light more because more and more people are playing video games than before.
also imo anything more than a good handful is a waste...unless you want a concussion XD

Imo it's all up to the audience. We can only hope they will eventually say no to that kind of stuff, same as with the whole unhealthy food problem. There's a reason I would not ever touch Scarlet Blade :P.
Censoring doesn't solve anything whatsoever; it only forces creators to become "clever". Euphemisms instead of being upfront. In this era, a lot of designers know that you can't create a realistic-looking video game without realistic characters. Popular realistic (story-based) video games wouldn't have been great if every single character in it looked like an underwear model.
If the game doesn't revolve around realism, I wouldn't say it's a bad call to make the characters look a bit more sexy than real life offers. Zyra and Nami wouldn't create the same fantasy if they didn't have (those ridiculous) boobs. Recapping, censoring is probably the worst thing you could do, eventually the creators settle down and find a personally drawn line.
