It's true that male characters typically fulfill power fantasies rather than sexual ones. Huh, maybe when I've done practicing male figure drawing (not even started yet, working on females) I'll draw that water champion I wanted. Now HE was sexualised, albeit without ridiculous anatomy. I keep getting dating ads, one of them had this girl with stupidly large breasts, it wasn't attractive at all, just extremely off-putting.

Draven isn't unattractive imo. And then there's Darius, Graves, Lee Sin and Xin Zhao. Can't be sure of the male ninjas :P

Personally I think characters that don't overdo it (i.e. more real) are just more interesting and sexy. My opinion is that Irelia, Riven, Graves and Jarvan are some of the "sexiest" characters in the league. In their own way, obviously.

Oh and I think that Dryad soraka, Chinese dynasty ahri, Chinese Janna splashart etc are how females should be portrayed :3
EDIT: forgot to mention, riven is definitely my favorite looking champion :3

i think biscuit is on target with his analysis. bottom line though women have been depicted as objects/sexual beings/etc. in everything since i can remember. nearly every advertisement that is directed towards men has a woman in it in some capacity hinting the idea that if you purchase this product you will get laid more....and men still buy into it...LOL.
video games play to the audience. who is the audience? mainly adolescent boys. does every adolescent boy like exaggerated features on a woman? no...but more do than don't. the good news is that since i started playing games (long time ago) the demographic has shifted and more and more women are playing games which is awesome.
I do have to say that more times than not the way women are depicted in games does indeed objectify them, but that too seems to be getting better as you see more female heroines than you used to.
lets not censor games...there is a rating system for a reason...let artists be artists...whatever that may mean..have you ever been to an abstract art showing? this **** is child's play to some of that stuff.
TV is far worse regarding the depiction of women imo than video games. this stuff is just coming to light more because more and more people are playing video games than before.
also imo anything more than a good handful is a waste...unless you want a concussion XD
You, good sir, clearly have no concept of that, I'd take Jarvan IV and his Demacian Standard every day ;P
lol nice. +1.

I agree entirely with that sentiment. Big "assets" are fine, however when they become unrealistically so they lose appeal. They still have use, I tend to find it amusing, and despite the fact that MF's appearance is off-putting, I actually think it works for the character theme. She's meant to be ludicrously sexy, and even if the exaggeration removes any actual appeal, it doesn't interfere with the design intent. She's still clearly meant to be this bombshell rather than someone who for whom their beauty is coincidental tot he character, such as Leona.

OMFG DON'T GET ME STARTED ON SORAKA'S NEW ART
Okay, I'll calm down. But the 'sexification' of Soraka is, in my opinion a horrible design fail (well, not quite completely horrible, as I'll elucidate). Soraka's new artwork made her look, to me, vapid and incompetent. She's meant to be this noble, exotic creature of the starts and her pose, pouty lips and wide childish eyes do not convey any of that. That is bad design. MF's sexification is design appropriate, Soraka's is not and it sacrifices her appearance of aptitude. Okay, when I really looked at Soraka's reworked lore, it is clear she is meant to have been this naive, innocent creature who had her eyes opened to the world by Warwick's betrayal, but kept her goodwill and optimism. Her new artwork does convey the innocence, so I don't think it's a complete failure from a design intent. However, she could have been designed to look innocent but still exotic, otherworldy and powerful.
Celestine is a bit better. But I really felt her old artwork, while of lesser technical quality, was better from a design point. It created this regal, majestic creature that really fit the characterisation.
Obviously everyone has different opinions, and if you like that art, more power to you. It does seem to be the direction of a lot of newer art. However I honestly feel that from a design perspective, it's objectively bad.
Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against sexualisation itself, so long as it is character appropriate. Skins are a slightly different matter.

video games are an artform (but they have to be games first, fez and gone home), if someone wants to make all the females in game have big titties then so what, its their choice. i don't give a **** if you're 'offended', gaming is and has always been a predominately male hobby, and we aren't going to bend over backwards to please a bunch of whiny ****s that have no interest in gaming.
Just a thought, but perhaps part of why a lot of games don't appeal to females is due to this kind of attitude.
Anyway, while I agree with Mr. Biscuit that there shouldn't be any real censoring of entertainment (as the market should take care of really objectionable stuff... kinda'), that doesn't necessarily mean that we shouldn't talk about the roles female characters have often played in video games. My takeaway from this video, in regards to Dragon's Crown, is that the real issue is the presentation of female NPCs in terms of their story roles, not necessarily their proportions of the game's art style. A bunch of the female characters have big boobs? Whatever. Not my thing, generally, but a ton of media uses oversexualized female bodies in all sorts of ways, and it's important to keep the context of the larger entertainment industry in mind when talking about video games. Attitudes on the subject of the presentation of the female body seem to be changing in general, so video games are probably going to mirror the more general trend over time.
I think it's also important to keep in mind, with Dragon's Crown, that virtually every character is disproportionate, male and female alike. And while there isn't a history of disproportionate male characters in video games being a big thing, it does suggest that a lack of proportion in Dragon's Crown might be a very deliberate stylistic choice.
What there is a bit of an issue with in regards to Dragon's Crown is the purpose of female NPCs. From what the Polygon review stated, they seem to only exist as a reward for the player rather than as actual characters. This is pretty damn dehumanizing of the female form, and that's not okay. This, really, is a larger problem with the game, and one that I'm rather surprised people aren't making a bigger deal about.
