Why AD Kog'Maw and not AP?

Why Kog'maw is almost always played AD, and not AP?

Err to be honest both AD and AP Kog'Maw are relatively niche right now.

AP Kog isn't played atm because:
    1) He doesn't have enough consistent burst / damage output
    2) He has huge mana issues

AD Kog isn't played either though b/c:
    1) He has a really weak early ~ mid game which is completely reliant on items
    2) He has no escapes

AP kog won't have many mana issues if you just buy a tear. and maybe a roa

It still has potential but it is increbily hard to put it into practice in games without being premade with your team.

It might actually see a return with the new mundo/renek/shyv top meta.

To be fair I do think AP Kog is heavily underrated and has huge potential. However, it'll be up to others to explore that :3

AD kog's issues also apply to AP kog. Froggen used it in the past to great extent but they immediately nerfed it because of his great play.

Unless you're Zamphira, then you draw AP Kog bans. :P

AP Kogmaw is very hard to play and not enough rewarding (in my experience). AD Kogmaw is slightly easier to play, and a little bit more rewarding :P

AP Kogmaw relies on a very hard to hit skillshot (which cannot be spammed due to mana issues), while as AD Kog that is not the case. AD Kog has an easier laning phase due to having a support in his lane, AP Kogmaw is on his own in the mid lane and is very vulnerable for ganks.

Kogmaw overal just suffers from very weak mobility, which makes him a very unpopular pick and a very unrewarding pick in the first place.

Ashe mid? i played that when i first started playing the game and didn't understand positions. (late season 2) and it was fun to play
side note: how do i link champions and items as words like some of you do

If only it was that easy. He still has the skillshot and mana issues :P

Also; I said AD Kogmaw has it easier because of having a support at his side. I didn't see that AD Kogmaw is good because he has a support at his side :P

Bring Ashe mid back and put the AP Kog'Maw bot.

    NP problem solved

The main problem is that people generally put AP Kog'Maw in midlane, and that's not really viable. It's probably because AP marksmen don't have a place in the meta (not yet at least). I think that's why Riot wanted to replace the term "AD Carry" with "Marksman" - champions like Teemo and Kayle are technically marksmen too: their purpose is to deliver huge DPS from a range, but very few players think that way.

BTW both AD and AP Kog'Maw are pretty weak right now, only a small group of enthusiasts can play him. Little Koggy is just too weak early and mid game, even for a hypercarry.

PS If I was going to play Kog'Maw, I'd build him with AP and go bot, not mid, but that's just me:)

depend on how u like to play with kog, either ad or ap, u still the one that can pentakill
kog is squaishy and thats the problem for both ad and ap

maybe we can do some calculation for AD and AP kog,
    Bloodthirster 70 AD (100 if stacks) + lifesteal = 3200 gold
    Rabadon's Deathcap 120 AP + 30% = 156 = 3300 gold

AD only scales with R, while AP scales with all skills.
    R + (.5 AD) + (.3 AP)
    AD kog R + 50 dmg
    AP kog R + 46.8 dmg

    Q - (.7 AP) + 105 dmg
    W - (100 AP +1%) + 2% Max HP
    E - (.7 AP) + 105 dmg

AP kog sounds better as u will stack a lot AP and gain extra 30% base on rabadon deathcap. but it need a lot map awareness, not afford to 1v1 in jg situation.

But AD kog is better at 1v1 situation. with lifesteal item

AP kog got more benefit during laning phase as u stack more ap and fill urself with mana pots to E on ur opponent ADC face. as E got 1100 range, u might dmg their support too.

Both kog might need to get Runaan's Hurricane for attack speed, W

I prefer play kog as a mage sniper, since the range is so far, I am initiator to engage the enemy from far away, well that's just me =D

^ Yaaaaaas. For only like 200 gold more, you can get Statik Shiv and it's stats are a lot more beneficial than just straight AS.
