If I'm losing lane I'd rather leave and secure dragon while ganking other lanes and hurting them badly. If I'm winning lane I would at least take their turret before leaving. If I'm winning lane I capitalize on it. If I'm not, I capitalize somewhere else. I'm not sure how I feel about your question, but basically I'd rather get kills and assists and objectives if I can't cs and farm the enemy.

Basically how I play LoL
I saw an example of this the other day funnily enough.
I was playing a game where our top laner
Kha'Zix was against an AP
Nunu & Willump Suffice to say AP Nunu got about 3 kills on Kha'Zix in the first 20 minutes or so. Now by this point it was clearly established that Nunu was beginning to snowball and he was much stronger than Kha'Zix. But no matter what, without fail, Kha'Zix would return to top lane after time Nunu killed him and would try to lane against him. This was about 35 minutes in, and at this Nunu just returned top every now and then to farm, but Kha'Zix went top as soon as he saw Nunu there and just stayed in lane until he inevitably died to Nunu.
Long-story-short we won the game due to a Lux and Volibear carry, but I was just so puzzled by this Kha'Zix so desperately trying to win lane for 40 minutes straight.

Ye my point exactly. Sure Kha could just play safe, get as many items as possible without dying and then help his team elsewhere. Kha'Zix being Kha'Zix, he would've had lots of opportunities to jump back into the game.
I don't play LoL anymore.
What pisses me off the most is that guy who is so thirsty for blood. I've faced lots of players who miss CS constantly just to harass or fight. Harassing and trading is fine but not when you're losing heavy farm for it. Whenever I face a player like that my first thoughts are "Goddddddd....AGAIN??".
Jayce players in particular are really annoying because of the range.

that's me bb. if I fail to kill you or you won't feed me, I'm going to hunt down your other lanes and make them my dinner

Yeah. That...that would be me. -raises hand- I've been working on that. If I give up to many kills and I see that my lane is obviously lost then I try to roam and snowball other things. (And also take my junglers creeps....heh...heh)

dem jokes.
It's the whole "win your lane, win the game" mentality. I've won plenty of lanes and lost the game... Lost lanes and won the game.. etc. Now, if you can win your lane, that's great. But often times, I'll just let it go (I play top mostly) and hunt down their mid or help bottom. Sure, I lose my turret, but 1) I was going to lose it anyway and 2) I don't give up any kills to that top laner.

Players in LoL seem to be super obsessed with winning the lane lately to the point where they would even try to down a turret at the expence of their team.
I personally find it silly because winning lane doesn't win you the game. It certainly helps you win by giving your team more map control and by making you stronger (possibly) but it doesnt automatically entitle you to victory.
The whole term is kinda ambiguous in general. For example if I'm playing a late game champion, and you are playing a strong laner that falls off, you didn't really achieve much even if you got my turret first and outfarmed me if I still managed to get my core items in lane. Or if you managed to win the lane by not assisting your team when they needed you badly.
Thoughts?
