Rylai's is **** on Kat. The slow is reduced for AoE or multi-target spells, and Kat only has 1 single target spell, which is Shunpo. It IS NOT COST EFFICIENT AT ALL for the stats it gives. Swap it out for a Deathfire Grasp, WHICH IS LITERALLY KATARINA's MOST NEEDED ITEM! Idk why you would rather get a rylai's over DFG since DFG grants so much more burst potential. Pretty DERP if you ask me.

Hey dude, great guide. I've been getting a lot of hate for not including Deathfire Grasp into my build, and noticed you haven't either. Can you care explaining why not? Also, if you could take a look at my guide and give me some tips, would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Depends on the support, Nami with Sightstone is not like a Leona with a Sightstone, a Nami in that case is killable with no DFG even if you dont channel full ultimate.

Supports really aren't that squishy anymore with the new ruby sightstone giving 400 hp and everyone buying doran's shield. It's not that easy to kill them if you're not building optimized damage ;-)

I'd like to tell you that not everybody who builds dfg is looking for the first reset in tf's. i buy it mainly to go roam bot for example. the dfg simply guarantees, that if i do get in range, i can instantly burst the support, and thus get the reset off, and thus get me and the botlane fed. And after Dfg you can start building team fight items, only you will prolly have the ability to instantly annihilate any non-fulltank enemy AND the items that can make you a teamfight monster, since you'll probably have accumulated some gold by roaming bot with dfg.
if im in a game that i know is gonna be harsh, i will probably not build dfg, but i wouldnt go hextech either. the little hp it gives back u can get by potions, and the loss of value when u sell revolver later makes up for the hp pots cost. i rather go haunting+sorceres+abyssal, because this allows me to be useful for my team even w/o a lot of gold. reasoning: if fed or not, kata has high base dmg. full pen means: either you get shat on by kat's base dmg being blocked by no mr, or you buy at least some mr, which means the enemy cant spend as much money on countering the fed guys in your team.
Also I'd never buy rylais in a standard game, since if i get it that early, the hp seems wasted to me. in early skirmishes, having full pen is so mich more valuable than the dmg imo, since by going tanky u might risk not instagibbing an enemy and not getting any resets off. going dfg DOES make you squishy, no doubt, but thats no problem as long as you manage to kill off one person fast.
Now I'm not such a high-elo player as you are, and maybe my rather high risk build doesnt work on this elo, but on my elo the dfg does wonders in getting me and my team ahead.
EDIT: I've played Katarina with my 2 builds rather successfully in plat 5-2

I absolutely understand your use of dfg to roam, but that would imply that the support you are ganking can be 1 shotted with your dfg which is not the case with a Leona, Alistar, etc. So in the case that there is a gankable squishy support on enemy bot having dfg or not won't change the fact that you can kill that support. The only change with the Ryalai's gank-wise would be the extra slow and tankiness as you are more likely to kill the support and survive. Having that full pen won't be worth much if the person protecting their carries just stuns you, and you are less reliant on your ultimate with a Ryalai's Zhonya combo than with a DFG.
When I made this guide I knew many people wouldn't like the fact that I am buying half an item (hextech revolver) and then even selling it later which makes many think it's a waste of money but it gives you not only the heal (that yes can be replaced by potions) but also the additional damage, not that in a teamfight you get the heal instantly and not over time + assuming you get your resets you keep on healing all that time you spam abilities.

So since when does Hextech = "great damage" and Haunting Guise = "you can get the HG for more early sustain" and is under the if getting bullied tab? And also why isn't Abyssal in a hard lane tab or something? If you get a Diana or LeBlanc mid Hextech isn't going to save you believe me. Also Zhonya and Rylai as first 2 big items? That means that by level 11 you will barely do damage and the enemy AP mid with the Rabadon and Athenes will most probably kill your ADC or you with his full combo the second you shunpo to someone.

The title makes this so incredibly sad.. Rylai's on Katarina now is pretty bad and the number 1 item to go for, DFG, is missing. Also you don't max W on Katarina anymore..

if you read through pro guides aswell they have the same opinion as me

I'm seeing more DFGs than Rylai's Crystal Scepters here. Say what you want, but the pros aren't agreeing with you.

Well, then I want a link of some of that "pro guides". The popular high ELO Katarina players (e.g. Tiensinoakuma, Scarra) all agree that DFG is way better on Katarina than Rylais. Yes, Voyboy builds it, but he doesn't play Katarina as a full assassin, more as a tanky toplaner.

I said shes about the overall resets and not about that first reset, if you read through pro guides aswell they have the same opinion as me saying that this dfg will affect only 1 person altho with a ryalai you can be sure to survive till you get the first reset and maybe more. If your team lacks high cc it helps and you can even start fights with that small slow from it.

You say Katarina is all about getting that reset, and there's no item that gives you that faster than Deathfire Grasp. Why would you ever pick Rylai's over DFG? Katarina isn't meant to CC enemies, your teammates will have to do that.
