So, today and yesterday I played only ranked games. After I played my 10th game it was announced that I'm in Silver III, but I wonder how can it be possible? In my placement games I've won 6 times out of 10 games.

If you had rank from previous seasons, it depends on that. If you don't have any rank from pervious seasons it depends on the normal mmr and the performance, mostly.

These 10 games were my first Ranked games. But I'm wondering something, how many games do I have to play before I go placed in another tier?

You mean division? It depends on the w/l ratio and your ranked mmr. If it is high you gain more lp and get to promotions and if it is low you gain less lp and won't get to promotions as fast. If your mmr is higher than silver, you will only need about 4 to 5 consecutive wins to get to promotions. Then you need to win 2 out of the next 3 games to get to the next division, II.

Were you expecting to get placed into gold? It's not that easy to get to gold.

Sounds more like he was expecting bronze tbh.

@OP: The general average MMR you start at is around silver IV or so for new accounts doing their first ranked placements. Not everyone starts in bronze -- I've never even been in bronze. In my experience, you can place as high as silver I with a new, unranked account (some people say gold V but I've never seen it happen).

Since you went 6-4 in your placements, the system estimates that you're around mid-silver level and put you in silver III. Your first ~40 or so games still have a bit impact on your ranking so do your best to make those count. You can climb or drop pretty quickly from your initial placement ranking. After maybe 50-100 games, the climb (or descent D:) will be more gradual.

If you want detailed information on how the ranked system works, just google it. Riot has some ranked info on the web from when they changed the system at the start of season 4.

If it's your first time ranked, you'll get Bronze or Silver.
Gold only if you manage to win all 10 games.

You landed in Silver III with 0 LP.
Now you have to win games to gain LP.
If you lose games, you also lose LP.
If you are at 0 LP and lose several games, you can drop a division. Meaning you can drop to Sivler IV if you like lose the next 3 - 4 games.

Once you gather 100 LP, you'll enter your series, the game will let you know when this happens once you reach 100 LP.
If you are in the middle of a tier, such as Silver III, your series will be a best out of 3.
This means win 2 out of the next 3 games and you advance to Silver II.
Lose 2 out of the next 3 games and you'll lose the series. You won't advance to Silver II, you'll still be in Silver III with ~75 LP left.

If you are however in Silver I when you enter your series, it's a best of 5.
Means you have to win 3 out of the next 5 games to advance to Gold V.
If you advance, it all starts again.
If you don't, you end up with ~75 LP and can try again.

I don't think you have to win all.. my friend won 8 and went into Gold 5. Idk but in a few games his opponent was pretty high tiers.

So that brings me to another question... does team average MMR affect league points gain/loss? Hypothesis is that if your enemy has higher MMR you gain more league points if you win.
