This post IS a RANT. I'm reaaaaally salty right now. Don't worry though. I won't be hating on anyone or anything. I will only express my hate for the subject at hand.
Dunno how many of you have seen the new Summoner's Rift that is heading to the PBE. I'll put a link at the bottom for those who haven't. Aaaaanyways, this is the worst update I've seen in League since I started playing in Season 1. Not only is this map freakin awful (I will say why down below) but despite what Rito is saying, there is a high chance people with low end PCs will be screwed over. I already just barely play with 20-30 fps. I don't need more updates for a map that is fine as it is (excluding the Jungle Monsters and Neutral Buffs and maybe the bushes as well).
And here is why this map is awful:
- It's dark
- It's messy
- It looks like the Dota 2 Map (dark and messy..)
- It doesn't have anything unique. It looks like your standard dark phantasy MOBA map. Yes, the old map is a little bit cartoon-ish and childish but that's what made it unique (in a way).
- Not a big upgrade from the current map. Obviously it looks more stylish but I don't think it's anything special.
So yeah. I'm so mad. I hate this new map. I despise this new map. I feel like puking just by looking at this new map. For those who share my opinion, much love for you! For those who don't, what the heck is wrong with you? (Just kidding but seriously guys..don't support this new map..it's AWFUL!..this isn't Dota 2..it's League of Legends ._.)

SR does need an update, which kind of style you'd say they need is up to you. Although it's clear that it does require an update.
Well I disagree. So..dunno what else to tell you haha. I think the current map is fine and there is no need to update it. And I highly dislike the new map. For now. They might change it in the future. We shall see.
I like the look of dota 2 tho :/
I cannot agree on that one, I mean.. the look of SR is a kind of identity for LoL and its pretty much changing identity now.. I highly dislike the D2 look.
I don't mind change as long as it's good. I don't think this change in particular is good. And I honestly don't agree that SR needs a VU. The current map is fine and the new one is not (in my opinion). Unless they tweak the map and make it look better by the time of its release, I'm not gonna like this change at all.
I'm still gonna play League despite the change (obviously x.x) but I'm never gonna like the new map in its current state. I will say though that after looking at it some more, it doesn't look as bad as I thought it did.

The fact it looks like DotA 2 is absolute ********. The map is still completely different in terms of style, also a lot more colourful. Not to mention that DotA's map (I'll just omit the 2 here cuz they're the same game, essentially) is split into two sections; one green and vibrant, and one that's not. There are elements in terms of fantasy esque realism but then the same applies to a multitude of games (Like BFME 2).
In the end you, and all those other players who hate this change, are just hung up on the old cartoony League style that's about to become a thing of the past. Nostalgia is fine and all but you also need to understand that games need to move on and that their style has to evolve. The worst thing one can do is stating that a change is back simply because it is a change. Objectively speaking, that is, from a designer's and marketing point of view, this is a really good direction to take.
In the end, a game has to evolve. The designers have chosen to abandon the old cartoony style and go for a more serious fantasy style, which is fine if you ask me. The art style and model style of champions was heading there already so I'm really glad that the map is evolving along with it. If they would've chosen the other path (Battleforge esque; the style that is), I would've been happy about it as well because League's style never really struck me as serious business. Although I think that, in the end, everyone can agree that SR needed a Visual Update; no matter what style one favours.

EDIT: Also, when I started playing the game I ran a minimum of 40 fps, now I run at 20-30... It was obvious that the game would be updated to the point where my intel graphics card couldn't support it very well. It's not riots fault :/
It's not their fault but there is no need to update the map. It's fine the way it is.

EDIT: Also, when I started playing the game I ran a minimum of 40 fps, now I run at 20-30... It was obvious that the game would be updated to the point where my intel graphics card couldn't support it very well. It's not riots fault :/
I don't really like the new Red and Blue Buff plus the minions but I like the simplicity in the look and overall the combination of colours. If it's actually easier to focus on your character during fights due to the background design like everyone says I'd really appreciate the update. Darkness is fine to me :p

The fact that it is dark makes champs etc pop out visually, since they are bright and colorful.
Nash and Dragon are awesome now.... I never even knew Nash was supposed to have legs.
The new wright looks like a frog? Whatever! It s not a wright anymore, they even said so. They are changing some camps into other monsters. That frog lookalike? Not a wright at all.
Have you seen the difference between now and then? Now looks like a blurry, bright mess. I really dont see how you can say it s better now.. And really? Your computer performance is not riot s fault. I am playing just fine and i doubt that is going to change. Well except for the odd EUW server crashes.

Champs popping out visually can't compensate for the fact that the map is way too dark. Nash and Dragon are good. I agree with that. It's Wight, not "Wright". And they shouldn't be changing it to a frog in the first place. The Wight looks okay. Not to mention this new frog looks like Baron's poop.
Yes I have seen the difference and the current map is okay. It has a unique look and you can separate it quite well from the other MOBA games' maps. The new map has a generic Dota 2 look.
