I've had Gragas on my team like 4 times at a low diamond level, 3 of them he carried, the last he got ganked a lot but managed to go even in lane at least. I had him once on the enemy team and he won lane despite being afk for about 5 minutes sometime around when he hit 6.
SO either greg is not for lower elos or we're making statistics out of a total of 8 games.
However, Lolking does agree that he seems pretty strong with a climb in popularity and over 50% winrate at all ranked levels and 52%+ winrate at Diamond and Plat levels.

I'm not saying he's strong because he did well in my games. I'm just saying that I feel good about my chances of winning when I have a top lane Gragas on my team now. :>

I believe the counter to gragas is someone who can splitpush well - like tryndamere or nidalee. Regardless, i agree that graggy top needs to be nerfed a little. Rito's going to skarner poor gragas i'm sure but i think all that gragas needs is a mana cost nerf, and then he'll be balanced.

It's all about team comp and match up. I believe we're missing that essential part of our statistics.
I'm finding mana costs to be an issue, but other than that, I haven't had too much of a problem with handling him for the most part.

i did ok as olaf against him since you can just all in him once you hit 6 because he cant slow you or ult you and if you keep getting your axes his E wont matter much if he uses it as an escape due to the CD

I'm guessing champs that can hard sustain as much as him and scale better into late game are the obvious choices.
...or you can just butter the Summoner's Rift so that when he casts E he rolls right into his own nexus, destroys it and it's GG.
