TL;DR - This will be a thread about why leadership is important in low-ELO ranked games. Buy wards, ping areas, call MIA, don't be stupid. That is what gets you out of this supposed "ELO hell".

A lot of you may know that I don't play that often. In fact, I've only recently reached level 30, I'll admit. (No, the stuff you hear me spout everywhere is not BS at all. It's valuable experience racked up while being in premades with level 30 buddies - some of them very good at this game - in addition to info from guides, videos, streams, and discussion threads, as well as in-game experience.)

So I just got finished with my first ranked game. It seems like our "leader" doesn't know how to ban, so I tell him quickly - yet he still misses the first ban before the timer runs out and ends up only banning Eve.

So we go into the match with Rammus, Eve, and Tryndamere banned. I'm fine with that. I would have preferred to see Shen or Janna on that list, but what are you gonna do, right?

Anyway, I'm third. Our first two pick Kennen and Mordekaiser, and I realize that we've got a lot of magic damage, especially since our fifth player has called that he's gonna play Lux. So I need to jungle. And I need to do it with an AD character. Needless to say, I was a little apprehensive at this point. Anyway, since I hate Master Yi with a burning passion, and I don't have Xin Zhao, I decided to jungle Udyr. Both Restrictnine's and ScienceXReason's guides helped me greatly here.

We go into the game - they've got one tank (Garen), an Ashe, Vladimir, Veigar, and Irelia in the jungle. So again, I'm a little nervous. I've played Udyr maybe once or twice, but I've got solid foundations based mainly on knowledge and theorycraft.

My jungle goes by rather smoothly. Our Mordekaiser is getting pressured down mid. I go to gank. Boom. First blood.

Couple minutes later, I go to kill Vladimir up top. Now we're 2-0.

For the rest of the game, I aggressively took leadership (not meanly or anything, just assertively ^_^). I got a Wriggle's Lantern. Partly because I wanted the slight bit of AD instead of the magic damage from Bloodrazor, partly because it's cheap, but mostly because of the WARDS.

I probably bought around 10 wards that game in addition to my Lantern. They saved so many of my teammates - it was just amazing. I made sure we were at every Dragon (losing one only after losing a team fight because of poor positioning), I counter-jungled their Irelia toward mid-game, and while I was pinging Baron like a madman at one point after we won a fight, my team decided to chase a Garen all the way across the map after killing the other 4 members of their team. Really. Think about that. What the hell is Garen gonna do to stop your 4-man Baron push?

Still, it wasn't that bad, and we ended up winning around 25 minutes in because they surrendered.

I don't want to sound egotistical - yes, it was one game, yes it's kind of low ELO - but I'd have to say that my leadership probably played a huge role in that game. As a current low ELO player, I need to stress how important it is to always buy wards, even for your teammates, always to ping, to say where to go and when to initiate, etc.

So yeah, my little "happy-rant" is over. Won my first ranked game, was a great experience, and I learned quite a lot.

By the way, lots and lots of thanks to Restrictnine for his guide - I probably wouldn't have been able to build correctly at all if it wasn't for him ^_^

Grats bro. I won my first 5 or so games of solo queue and ended up at 1500 ELO with very little experience in ranked games haha. Just remember that even if you play to the best of your ability; buying wards, ganking, winning 1v1s, etc - you can still easily lose the game. At the end of the day it is a team game and no single person can carry a team.

Congratulations! For your first ranked game, this is extremely good! Altough, having your team to ward with you gives another advantage.

Grats again!

Vince.

My first ranked game I was screwed up in the jungle twice by a Mundo and my team-mates called me a noob because our Irelia refused to a) come help or b) call a miss in the bottom lane

My rage fuelled and I quickly starting switching between laning, jungling and ganking to reclaim the lost levels and gold. Called every miss myself and got Dragon (almost by myself) whenever it was up stealing it once

I almost single-handedly carried the game destroying everything in my path with the enemy eventually QQing

Thats why you ban Rammus

Haha, so I played 2 more ranked games today.

The first game I played Malphite in a 1v2 lane against Miss Fortune and Nunu. I did pretty well, scoring 4 kills in lane while dying twice (not the best score, but still good). But the enemy Kennen is 3-0 in middle and our Tryndamere just gave first blood (He GAVE it to them, he literally face-checked the brush when his lane-mate wasn't there yet and got sniped by Ashe and some other champ down bot that I don't remember.)

That Tryndamere continued to feed for the rest of the game. His build order was something like Brawler's Gloves-->Avarice Blade-->Cloak of Agility-->Phantom Dancer-->Madred's Bloodrazor.

The entire game my team yelled at him to grab boots. The entire game we told him to use his ultimate when he was dying. This guy was so bad, he didn't even pop it at the beginning of the fight or at the end - he just never used it.

I also think he maxed Spinning Slash first. I didn't see a Bloodlust on him until level 4.

That Tryndamere ended up going something like 3/9/2. The rest of my team was bad, but not as bad as him - still, they all had negative records. As Malphite, I barely managed to break even with a 6-6 record (the most kills on my team, the least deaths). So that was my first loss. I blamed it on the matchmaking system.

Game 2 I played jungle Mumu and I could tell I had a good team, people were talking in chat, doing strategies. Double stun Sion+Panth completely raped the bottom lane, Teemo was laning vs Morg+Lux and was doing alright, while Trist was in middle against Malzahar. We gave Trist red buff as the game started and my ganks proceeded to rape faces. First blood on Malz, then a double kill on Lux+Morg. That game, the matchmaking queue worked in my favor, as all of my teammates were fantastic players. Trist was alright, Teemo had great mushroom spread, Sion+Panth were probably a premade or were just good, and I rocked it, getting really tanky late-game. Which was only about 30 minutes anyway.

So I'm now 2-1 in terms of win-loss. Yaaaay.

Congrats dude :)
I think I've lost more ranked than I've won. My problem was, that I was only really good with Malphite when I hit level 30, so when I played other champions I did not always do that well. I really recommend that you can master more than one champion, if you don't want to end up in ELO hell. It is my own damn fault xD
