[/quote] I thought the Germs I knew were exaggurating the "retard" part of Hauptschule, but it seems indeed pretty low, if McDonalds is your best shot :P The Dutch school system is as following: Elementary school (mix of kids) -> Middle school (VMBO, HAVO and VWO) -> If VMBO -> MBO (college) -> If HAVO -> HBO (bachelor) -> If VWO -> WO (university) VMBO is like 50% of the Netherlands and this is considered to be the lowest form of education (regarding middle school). Even then, VMBO is divided in different layers, so that you also have Basic, Theoretical and "Kader" levels which all differentiate the skill a VMBO guy has. These people are usually going to MBO as well (college), where they can slightly "specialise" in a certain direction. The MBO level of work is very pitiful however, for pretty much everyone I know that has been on that level made it with ease. The ones that wanted to continue on with HBO had to work really hard in order to make it. If you want to know what directions you can get into specifically, as a VMBO person you can go pretty much anywhere, but you will do the more practical work instead of theoretical. Eg construction guy, painter, office worker, that kind of stuff. HAVO is the higher form of education in comparison to VMBO. This would be like ~30% of the Netherlands. Unlike VMBO, there is only one level of it, which is simply HAVO. Then when people finish it, they go to HBO (bachelor) (or MBO if they want to do something easy), where they really can specialise in a direction. I myself am on this boat atm. If you follow something like this, you will likely be doing a mix of practical and theoretical work, like: Teacher, lab worker, programmer, economist, etc. VWO is the highest form of education on the middle school. This is a real minority in the Netherlands. Sometimes VWO is differentiated in Gymnasium and Atheneum, although the difference is literally: Gymnasium has to learn 1 language more (afaik). When these people finish the middle school, they go to WO (university) or lower, where they can do whatever they like, really. If you follow an university level, you will likely be doing something very theoretical like: Medical nerd, law nerd, science nerd, supernerd and all that kind of stuff.[/quote]
