What are the most popular sports in your country? Is it common for kids/ teenagers to do a sport?

Basketball. That is literally it. Everyone plays basketball (well, not exactly everyone). I was once told it was weird for a guy not to play basketball in my country. I'm not much of a sports person, and I am personally not a fan of basketball though. Basketball is pretty male-dominated in our country, so most girls play volleyball or badminton.

Let me guess where you come from(might be completely wrong, though): Lithuania? Croatia? Slovenia? Serbia?

@ Trolling: All germans (and a lot of dutchies as well) absolutely hate Greece politicians as well for ****ing up the whole economy. They are absolute masters of creative accounting. I could go on a rant for hours about this lol.

Forgot to mention where I'm from lol. I'm from the Philippines, but I realize that basketball is really popular across the globe XD

Who said we don't hate our own politicians aswell? Actually we hate them more than any other politicians because they were talking ****/lies for almost 40 years and most likely still do. But we also did not appreciate Angela Merkel's stance.

EDIT: Check out this video. Do not bother the greek subtitles, the original is in english so you can understand everything. The faces shown in the clip are faces of Greek politicians and the building is the Greek Parliament.

However, some people call Germans "cold", in the sense that they show little emotion in their life and follow everything by the book.

Well, as much as that has been proven wrong by literally every German I know... It's a personality trait I strongly appreciate and can relate to. It's exactly why I like the Nordic countries (and Britain) so much. I absolutely DESPISE the Balkan liveliness :X

Q: What do people think about the treatment of women in Turkey (and other countries with a similar way of treatment, i.e most Islamic countries)? Personally, I find the whole chastity argument to be extremely redundant and fundamentally flawed.

I have to agree with you on that and most people in my country do.

However, I do believe that countries such as Saudi Arabia and Qatar are far stricter than Turkey, as far as religious rules are concerned. Turkey looks a lot more like a "modern"/"western" nation than these countries do.

True true... but Turkey was about to implement a law that restricted women from smiling in public because it was "inviting" behavior... much modern so western wow

Also, one more question aimed at you and everyone else from Greece; what's your stance on the name of my country (Macedonia, feel free to refer to it as FYROM if it bothers you)?

People here really do not like to historically link themselves with ancient Macedonia and are all aware that we are of slav origins, so the only thing we're taking is actually the name "Macedonia" because we've used that for the region that we live in even since my grandparents can remember... I don't know why it's so bothersome to people from Greece, considering how names have been "stolen" countless time throughout time and nobody has given a thought to it.
Thanks to Koksei for the sig!

I don't think Germans are cold but rather straight to the point which is often confused with that. Same goes for us Dutchies, that's for sure.

Regarding ancient Macedonia, there is clear evidence that it was more or less, where the Greek Macedonia is. Even foreign researchers can prove this and foreign documentaries about Alexander the Great claim that he came from that place. Provided that, I can not understand how "Macedonia" originated as a name for your country. However, it doesn't bother me either and I don't think the new generation in Greece cares a lot about it.

I can't really say to you what the problem with the name "Macedonia" is, all in all it's just a name, as you said. It's just that some "patriots"(who in the end harmed our country more than enyone else) do not find it historically correct and were afraid that you would try to "steal" the ancient Macedonia origins.

Note that this is mainly my personal view. This was an issue in the 80s and 90s(I was born in late 90s) before financial problems started for my country. I am not a diplomacy expert, either.

Glad to see the younger generation in Greece is similar to the younger generation in Macedonia. Stupid patriots can go eff themselves (in both countries) D<

I've got no idea about the origination of the name either... Kinda dumb but it's there and has been there for a bit too long to be changed :/

I was born in the late 90's too; however this STILL seems like quite the issue considering it's all over the news 24/7, almost more than the "economy is ****/going to ****" news xD
Thanks to Koksei for the sig!

Well, in Greece it's not that much in the news. It's an important issue indeed but right now Greece has one greatest depts in the history world-wide and almost everything in the news resolves around financial related stuff.

Interesting thread, I'll try to answer in the way I think it would represent opinion of most citizens of my country.

1.) What do you think others think about Germans?

Croatians, mostly like Germans, on the national level, germans were on our side in war 20 years ago, they supported our defensive intention against Great Serbian Agression, so older people generally like germans. Germany supported us economically in 2000s and is constantly helping us. Also german tourists are some of most common in Croatia in summer season, and they are known as good tourists who spend a lot of money.
My personal opinion on germans is positive, I don't have any close friends that are german but I know some germans and I like them.

2.) What is the eating habit of a regular person in your culture?

If you were thinking about way of eating, then it's knife, fork and spoon for whole Croatia, I don't know any exception where people eat with something else.
If you were thinking about food, then it greatly differs depending on region you are in: on sea shore and islands, it's mostly mediterranean food, similar to other mediterranean countries, like italy, greece...
In the area around capital - Zagreb, it's historicallly influenced by Hungary and Austria. In the eastern part of Croatia is influenced by eastern countries, since agriculture is important in that region, food is traditional country food typical for that way of life.

3.) What do you think about black EU people? (I'll take the b8, m8)

Croatia is homogeneous country with more than 95% white people (guessing the number but i think i'm close), and most of black people are tourists. I won't lie, some people despise black people and think they are worth less than white people, but they are minority. Other people, I have feeling, don't have such strong negative opinion about black people, but there are some prejudices, mostly because of such low exposure to different cultures and our homogeneity.

4.) What are the most popular sports in your country? Is it common for kids/ teenagers to do a sport?

Football is without doubt the most popular sport, it's very popular with mostly men. Other sports get more popular with different tournaments and championships croatia takes part in, currently basketball is popular too since world championship is currently being played (we beat argentina today).

5.) does your country adhere strictly to laws in your culture?

No, laws are followed only if you know you'll get punished for breaking it, if you know it's strictly controled. Everything else isn't followed, and everyone does as they please.
