Do you play osu?
I have lots of unranked maps or just normal maps which I have found funny but haven't
liked slow AR so I've toned it up and therefore lost ranked right.
I do stop many times before finishing though. I don't know why since there is no point
trying to improve my accuracy now but It's just a habit. If I know I can do better
or just fail horribly at some easy part, I restart.

^ I'm doing this too. But I think that alot of people do the same. It's because I don't want to go to the score screen and say "well, this is a bad score" and/or waste time doing the whole map again.
Ichi, most of the time if you don't FC a map you get close to zero pp for it, so there's not really a point in continuing past 1 miss unless you're certain you weren't going to fc or gain pp anyway.
Or that's how it is for me.

It's your highest ranking on that map.
So if you have a attempt worth 100pp at 100k points, but another attempt worth 80pp at 200k points, it gives you 80pp.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's how it works.

I am pretty sure that only the highest score is taken into consideration. Why would a lower score give more pp though?
I AM NOT AFFECTED BY ELOHELL. NOOBS AND TROLLS NEVER RUIN MY RANKED GAMES.
I DON'T GET STUCK AND I NEVER GET ONLY 2LP FOR A WIN.
I AM UNRANKED.

^ I agree. At least, that's how it works in mania. I've never lost any pp because I bet my highscore. Can it happen in standard ?
