So like, I live in Macedonia and recently the government decided it would be a good idea to pass another ******** rule that would quite literally butcher all (non - rich) students...

Take a look at this reddit threat: http://www.reddit.com/r/pics/comments/2ovhtz/today_in_a_small_poor_former_yugoslav_country/

And this article: http://www.balkaninsight.com/en/article/mass-student-protest-clogs-skopje

Please spread the world if you can, it really is our only way to fight this right now :/

EDIT: Currently the hashtag on twitter is #StudentskiMarsh or the more popular cyrilic hashtag #СтудентскиМарш

Why is university education not priceless? That clearly is a huge discrimination.

Now let me tell you how Greek students deal with any problem concerning university.

Step 1: Locking themselves in the university and not allowing anyone to get in. Classes do not take place either.
Step 2: Interruping any councils of the university administration. If nothing else works, throwing rubbish on the head administrator might will(yes, that happened).
Step 3: If nothing else works, protests might do.
Step 4: Keeping this situation for several days.

Not really the best way to react but it works sometimes.

Just come to germany. Free education ftw(sometimes there is a fee that you have to pay every semester, but it is nothing compared to the costs of american universities)

this really isn't about the money though, it's about losing your entire years and having to start over (or losing your chance to study altogether)...
It's really hard to get in universities here though, more than likely both the student and his parents will have to work full time to pay off the costs, especially if you want to enroll in a more prestigious university. Having to repeat 2 years just because of some ridiculously hard, poorly formulated exam (something along the lines of "oh this random piece of info is in the book and nobody probably remembers it as it is completely detached from the rest of the material, therefore it must be included in the test 8))) which has absolutely no purpose than gaining money is preposterous
Thanks to Koksei for the sig!

the point is...universities have to be free so that everyone has equal chances. Other than that I do not see how letting people abroad know about the situation can help. Many countries are facing similar issues(I can assure you that testing works almost the same way in Greece). Try locking yourselves in the universities(is there ***ylum?). Not that democratic and might have consequences, I know, but works.

Our government sort of crumbles under pressure, especially when people everywhere around the globe are criticizing them and saying that the law they want to impose is absolute ****. Trust me, it helps a lot more than you think

Universities being free... I'm all for the universities being free while the entrance exams become absurdly difficult but considering how much money people make by abusing students I hardly doubt it will ever happen. Macedonia is an entirely corrupt country, so this is more or less the most we can ask for.

Also, I'm currently a sophomore, therefore I can't do much to influence the protests. Students have started gathering and carrying out the march in all major cities though, and the government seems to be acknowledging it. There was a similar problem brought up before, about the student dormitories (cess pools is a better word to describe them) and after it sort of "blew up" on reddit the government actually started with some minor renovations! Huzzah!

The amendment sounds like a good way to weed out **** colleges. At least that's what it appears to be.

I can't be arsed to exam this issue any further, considering when you got college students, who would probably be at a party or huffing paint in class, sitting in front of a governmental institute shouting.

Thid way, though, you also exclude good students(especially poor ones) from their right to education. It only strengthens capitalism and further allows the wealthier to exploit the poor even more.
