Introduction
This is like the normal, but I'll explain it anyway since this is a guide. You want to harass the enemy frequently, and at the same time, keep your last hitting up! That's the most important part. LAST HITTING!! I stress farming a lot. It's one of the most important things. You can either just last hit with basic attacks, or if you are about to recall/full of mana, then you can just use your spells. Make sure you always push your lane before you recall so the tower can deny their farm and experience.
Also, if you do not want to get Rabadon's at the end, and you think you need defense, I would suggest buying Banshee's Veil / Frozen Heart / Guardian Angel. All three of them work very well. If you don't get Rabadon's, you will still have over 500 AP. Banshee's Veil / Frozen Heart will not really be needed for the Mana, but extra damage is always fine. Will of the Ancients + Desperate Power will be more than enough for survival. With this build, you are going to be bursting hard enough to heal like crazy! Like I said before, you will still have over 3,000 Mana without these, as long as you cast spells frequently for your Tear of Goddess.
