Runes

Alrighty runes... pretty plain and simple Greater Mark of DesolationGreater Mark of Desolation extra armor pen for extra amazing early game damage. Plus some defensive runes so you can really shut down your oppenent Greater Seal of Resilience
Greater Glyph of Warding Greater Quintessence of Fortitude. This is pretty much the way to go, great ability to survive without many tank items.

Skill Sequence

Your skill sequence can make and break an amazing score, knowing how much damage your ability's can do, what your opponents are capable of and when to use your ability's are very important. usually the basic skill sequences your should use are the following.

Initiating a 1v1 - your going to want to start with Undertow(Q) ,slowing them and allowing you to catch up. start with Reckless swing(E) as soon as your in range followed by activating Vicious Strikes(W) when in melee range. continue on spamming Reckless Swing(E) every time its off cooldown. Even though Undertow(Q) will do some extra damage, you might want to save that for when they start to run away.

Chasing an enemy - As soon as they start to run away you are going to want to throw your Undertow(Q) at them to slow them down. every time you get in range you are going to want to use Reckless Swing(E) and so on. if you think you wont get the kill in time they get to safety you can use the exhaust spell to slow them down further, making them less resistant to your attacks and you should then get the kill.

Team fights - Team fights can be a little tricky, the situation really depends on when you want to use your ability's but most of the time you want to do the following. You will start off by throwing Undertow(Q) trying to hit all of them or the person your team wants to focus. before completely charging in you want to make sure you use Ragnarok(R) to null out any disables and grant reduced damage. A few examples of great disables you can prevent from having this active...

Malzahar's Nether Grasp - suppression
Warwick's infinite duress - Suppression
Veigar's Event horizon - AOE Stun

This makes him unstoppable for a few seconds giving him the chance to focus down a carry or a dangerous nuke and change the outcome of the team fight. when entering the fight with Ragnarok active your are going to basically do the same 1v1 skill sequence mentioned above with a mixture of the running away skill sequence. you are going to be continuously spamming Reckless Swing(E) while using Vicious Strikes(W) for extra lifesteal, spellvamp, and attack damage. and when they run away you are going to use Undertow(Q) as much as you can to slow while you spam Reckless Swing(E)

Summoner Spells

Here we are... Summoner Spells, these things can give you kills your champion otherwise wouldn't have got. so how you decide what would work the best? its mostly personal preference, What works for you and also fits in with your champion. here ill show you what works best with this build and the champion Olaf plus some viable alternatives.

Viable and recommended

Exhaust- A simply fantastic spell for 3v3's. this spell can be used for many purposes. you can defeat an enemy who has the upper hand in a 1v1 by reducing there attack and ability power whilst lowering there resistances. another use can be for the slow, having trouble catching up or running away from an enemy? no problem with exhaust, it not only lets you catch up or run away from your target but your whole team can catch up and save you behind! Another use is to use the damage reduction to focus someone down without the target exhausted doing too much damage to you.

Ghost - Another great Olaf spell. Ghost is also a multi purpose spell. you can use Ghost to chase after an enemy and get out of a gank or team fight.

Alternatives

Flash - This spell can be useful. instantly get you out of a gank or team fight but only a short distance. someone can easily catch up to you afterwards. however if you use it to jump over a wall your pretty much home unless they flash also, or use an ability that they can use to jump over walls such as

Tryndamere's Spinning Slash
Ezreal's Arcane Shift
Kassadin's Rift Walk

But keep in mind Other Champions can get the final blow with a well timed and accurate skillshot such as

Nidalee's Javelin toss
Amumu's Bandage Toss
Blitzcrank's Rocket Grab

I Suggest using flash if your new to Olaf. but eventually i suggest you try to use ghost and see how it works out for you. if it doesn't fit you then don't worry about it flash is also viable.

Ignite - The reason Ignite is in yellow under the Alternatives is because it can be used as an alternative but it not recommended. Some Olaf players you will find to have ignite replaced
