Cant kill the Zil

First i'd appreciate comments and suggestions. Sorry my build is so long, but i must explain, i see people playing Zil AP basically everytime. This is great as AP builds clearly beefs up both of Zils main abilities (bomb & chronoshift).. but there are other options!! Allow me to show you my Zil.. supporty, tanky & late game Killa, but most importantly super hard to kill.

The focus on this build is to have lots of health, lots of CD! The Battle plan and tactics are to bait with yourself or an ally, appear weak and when enemy strikes and is lured away counter with chronoshift {then timewarp (whichever applies), flash, double bomb (timebomb, rewind, then another timebomb on same target)}, repeat. The general strategy is go between lanes killing massive groups of creep, join as many team fights as you can, and stick around fights (in back, if needed) to cast revive. By end game you can cast Chronoshift twice in one minute!

So sit back, relax and enjoy making your team love you, and your enemies hate you!

Zil... Zilean (if you couldn't figure that out)
AP=ability power
Bread & Butter, 1-2-1, q-w-q, double bombs=bomb twice on same enemy
haste & Slow=Timewarp

Super Survive!!
Great support/easy assists
Farm easy
Start in any lane
Late game constantly reviving
Versatile later in game
Fun if you like Supporting & allies appreciation

Low mid game AP
Mana Costly
Might be difficult to learn.. maybe
weak against AP champions
Can overestimate how much punishment you can take and how many champions you can survive.
(as Zil sometimes you seem to think your invincible, can survive everything & anything... well

your usually right, but sometimes..)

Magic Pen marks are a must have, AP or magic resist glyphs (your choice flat/perlvl) and health seals (i suggest /lvl on this one) or another great choice for seals is mana regen, and dodge is actually pretty fun too (might get ninja tobi). Finally grab 3 or 2AP quints & 1 flat health quint, I have survived many times by the 34 extra life that flat health quint gives me a few times so i myself putting these on, seems like alot of champs like killing zil early game, you must survive to see lvl 6!

Mastery Tree
Start with picking up in the offensive branch, 3 AP/lvl and 1 point in critical (exhaust ain't bad if you play with it), and then 3%CD with sorcery and Archaic Knowledge for the 15% magic penetration (real aim here). The offensive branch gives you farming early paired with runes this is necessary for the price tags of some of these items. Next is 21 Utility, where you take everything except CD & Neutral Buff. This will give you tons of mana regen, experience and movement speed. Now, i play with teleport and flash with Zil (Ill explain later, but your preference) so i put masteries in utility tree. I would not recommend intelligence (CD) under utility tree, you will not need anymore CD after items are maxed! I also no some of you out there cringe at the idea of wasting precious CD with maximum of 40% (wasted on offense branch 3%, once items are maxed), but for the magic penetration it is well worth it and helps your early game some and is generally worth it. If you cant stand it, be my guest put it in attack speed.

Summoner Spells
Teleport & Flash if u read whole guide you will understand (helps masterys by not wasting on good hands, and will save yourself, your allies, towers and killing all day long)..
Good alternatives as Summoner Spells: If your not fan of teleport or flash...
Ghost~this gives you easy utility mastery tree also (goodhands) you will not need this mastery as you shouldn't die, ever. Also overall great chase and escape (excellent with haste, super speed!!).
Heal~this one really surprised me.. when laning with side lane and teammate, can help with
early win or kill. Plus with revive @ lvl 6 is pretty awesome with champs with low life, please cast after reviving though. Later ive found it can be wasted.
From there its all preference:
If your good with clairvoyance by all means..
exhaust is nice too (get cripple for ar/mag pen) can save some mastery CD, plus -10 magic
resist.. ganks and getaways too.
rally ive never tried but could see its benefits actually.
cleanse too can be helpful, this allows you to cast revive sooner after stun.. very helpful.
Maybe fortify or ignite (i would rather survivability than ignite though)
Everything else is a waste of time really (smite, clarity, revive).

You rush to get boots (whatever applies, like always) and chalice asap (mostly chalice), this will allow farming for the rest of game. Your next focus for items is CD, @ start of game you only have 3% CD. Go for Glacial shield or soul shroud both items are your main item focus.. once accomplished you almost have full CD (38%), armor, health and almost infinite mana. After that adapt really, i selected in items Zhongs ring and rylai's scepter because they are great with chronoshift (help revive much more) and bombs with slow. Ive tried all of the following and depending on the situation there are many strong choices late game.
If you need tank late game Guardian angel, aegis of legion, banshees veil or classic tank items (warmogs, thornmail, leviathan, FoN) work well. If team fights are constant and you're not hurting enough go for abyssal scepter, starks furvor, Will of the Ancients, mejais, RoA (archangel staff is great to spam spells and never run out of mana!). When you have weak carries and find it difficult to push towers dont be afraid to get guinsoos rageblade or hextech gunblade, one game I found myself with Phantom dancer and guinsoos rageblade (had a master yi quiter 4v5 game, and rest of team were casters or tanks with no one pushing), both teams kind of laughed @ it but in the end we one the game. And last, if there is specific need for particular utility items like consumables, wriggles lantern, oracle or quicksilver sash feel free, you have great flexibility @ this point of game.

(check to see if team is getting aura item, dont need to waste)

Time Bomb~
Place a bomb on enemy champ, creep or ally! Explodes after 4 seconds and can cast rewind to place another bomb to set off first bomb!
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
This move makes you a force to be reckoned with. Remember that the best thing to do is be
creative with bombs. Once your Timebomb is maxed, this move really has some boom.. try to
follow some tricks i like to use with Timebombs.
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
1. Early game dont waste alot of bombs on creeps, bombs are too mana costly.. i tend to use them only to harass and to place on creep so fellow laner (if laning) can last hit without fear of enemy harassment.
2. When you are ahead of lane (creeps) and enemy creeps are coming in a line towards you, run past the first creeps and stand next to back creeps, Next you fire your bread and butter double bomb when all creeps are next to each other. This can (later in game) kill entire creep wave (3melee creep, 3caster creep and most of tank creep!)!! You should also attack the same creep twice so he will die from bomb faster.
3. Look for back minions with some health missing, when laning with enemy. Place a bomb on that minion, wait for enemy champ to come close to my bomby creep then rewind and cast another bomb on same bomby creep. This will set off both bombs (if first bomb kills creep).. you're farming and harassing the whole time with this and you will do massive AoE damage (so even better in group fight initiation).
4. My favorite is to kill Trynd.. with his Ult, thinkin hes the master of survival! Place a bomb when he is already started ult and place bomb (early game i think his ult is 3 secs), if timed right he will run away just to be killed after his ult is over.
5. @ Level 5 timebomb, you can usually place a bomb on back creeps attack each back creep one time and the bomb will go off seconds later killing back row, you wont need double bomb here and can save lots of mana.
6. Once you have Chalice, Cast bombs all day long! This is spell is pretty expensive Since your casting two at a time usually. That is why i focused alot on masterys on mana regen too.

Cast to CD all abilities by 10 seconds, except rewind.
This works well obviously with timebomb, but also serves a great purpose with Chronoshift. Once ChronoShift is cast constantly cast this spell (especially if @ fountain), make Chronoshift always avail and stay in group fights, saving people is your job with this build once you hit level 6 (more realistically later in game.. need cd & mana to spam with).. & the greatest thing about rewind is that it always costs 50 mana! Abuse it.

Haste/Slow to single target.
This spell is great for ganking, avoiding ganks and singling out one target in group fight
(find their carry) and saving ally.. remember this can save a friend so always stay with team member even when low health (within reason) when you two are running away. Also use this spell to slow opponent or haste to help team get kill (stun), or take it yourself. Just casting this spell on enemy or ally with their kill is your assist and thats pretty nice. Careful if you cast this spell early, its pretty mana costly, but mid game you want at least one in timewarp.

Cast a protective rune that lasts 15 seconds and revives ally upon dying 500/750/1000 +300%AP.
When you have mastered this build and play style, you should be casting this spell constantly! You will be making so many rage quits and quick wins, you'll be swimmin in IP. Here are some useful tips:
= = = = = = = = = = = = = =
1. Cast chrono constantly; on yourself, and on your team.
2. Bait for your team, or have someone else bait with u hiding in brush (then revive, flash, slow, double bombs etc).. i even usually let "dead" teammate pickup kill, if they are carry or need kill.. you farm plenty and your assists will be super high!
3. If an enemy turret is really close to falling and you have only afew creeps around dont be afraid to stick around (100-400life), tank the turret with this build and chrono yourself.. if you're smart about it it can be that last hit that finishes turret, clearly a bad idea if you don't know where enemy champs are.
4. Remember Chronoshift has huge range, so cast through walls or hiding in brush.
5. I take teleport with me because you can make some sweet saves with teleport and Chronoshift.

If you see a bad situation with ally, got afew seconds before ally dies and see some creeps around (or sight ward), teleport in and then cast chronoshift immediately on ally (follow up with slow, double bomb etc).
6. Plus, if youve read Morthos's "Oh no, not HIM...", you should be familiar with the revive, flash through wall and haste away laughing.. It is true and i laugh everytime, thanx Morthos! Ive survived 5v1 many times with this technique, so has Morthos and so can you.
7. When using Chronoshift, Favor: Carry>anyone with buff>anyone with escape>anyone with CC>the friend you invited but sucks>tank.. you yourself are around "anyone with escape" depending on situation (save whoever really).
8. Most important: when casting revive on ally.. dont just leave them to die again, go tank for them (you can with this build), haste their escape and if they need it harass enemy away.

With this build by lvl 14 you should have full CD reduction for this spell. By lvl 14 you
should have 40% CD from items, your Chronoshift would be @ lvl 2 and would normally take 160 seconds to CD (40% CD is more like 100 seconds), plus rewind which you can cast every 6 seconds!! In all, once mastered and you have mana to spare you can cast chrono almost twice a minute, this can be very aggravating for enemy champions.

Skill sequence
Level up ChronoShift>Timebombs>rewind>timewarp. I do put 1 level in timewarp @ level 4 (great for ganks and stopping theirs.. but very expensive early game). Time bombs are your bread and butter so get that going, only offensive spell he has. Once your level 5 your ready for the farming to begin! Rewind is important to focus mid game so u can spam chronoshift as early as possible!

Begin game with Meki pendant and two health pots, you can also start with boots and 2 mana pots and possibly health, but id only recommend this if you are comfortable with zil & have teleport to get right back in farming early game after picking up meki or chalice..
You need to go where you are needed. Place bombs on champs only and not creeps to harass them, continue this until level 5, then you can place bombs on creeps and farm, while harassing enemy champ!
If you can mid take it (with exp passive and masterys mid will have you higher level than
anyone), but helping a side lane is just as good. Side lanes is especially good if you have champ that has hard time farming early (melee), zil can harass extremely well.. also Zil is amazing @ solo side lane if you have a jungle character!
Just dont be greedy, but dont be afraid to go in for kill when time is right.

You can return to fountain and get full boots, but its a usually a good idea to get simple
boots and get chalice, whenever since you have teleport.. once you have chalice you can cast bombs all day long! You Should then get either: glacial shroud (20% CD, plus armor and mana.. all will be needed and welcomed!) or Soul Shroud (start with giants belt, allows you to play mid game with great survivability) both give good CD reduction which is key to this. Once one is done, get the other. You now have 38%CD, pretty cozy so sit on it that way for awhile and enjoy reviving your friends and them loving you for it! Your job is to run between lanes blowing up whole groups of creep pushing towers, be in every team fight while spamming Chronoshift and generally baiting opponents into bad moves that get them killed. You should aim for luring opponents into killing your champ around tower/and or team, they usually stick around to try to finish you off after chronoshift, should give you time to surround enemy.. thats when you slow opponent and gank.

Mid Game

You should be either finished up with Glacial shroud and Soul Shroud or close too it. Now you have some more fun options.. you can save up for needlessly large rod and aim for Zhong's or you can get another giants belt and aim for rylai's sceptor. Both are great, zhongs will make you nasty with bombs, and chronoshift will heal much more! Rylais sceptor is more survivability and gives you even more slows! Most important is adapting @ this point really. Save towers that are under attack by teleporting and casting chrono on self or whoever needs it and then aim for nearest minion that is centered and slightly damaged, then double bomb the same one. If double bombed correctly, this will cause all/most creeps to die and turret to target champs that are left and then you can slow them (combo etc, aka turn the tide of a nasty situation)!

You should be supporting a teammate carry that will push through any and all lanes! If the game makes it long enough to finish ult build (chalice, boots, frozen heart, soul shroud, zhongs, rylai's), you should be ridiculous @ this point able to cast Chrono in less than a minute! Your AP thanks to zhong and rylais is something to be feared (timebomb hurts 400-500 each (carries beware)! Chronoshift revives for 1800+ and slows/hastes too boot and dont forget to use zhongs active in ganks that really drives 'em crazy.

Final Thoughts & extras~~
*Take advantage of Zil's passive, 8% extra exp for whole team! It is always a great idea to have a jungle (if someone can) so you all take the most advantage of extra exp% and zil is perfect solo side-laner.
*This build may not work if you do not get same runes AP, Health and mag pen (at least marks (magic pen), quints and glyphs(AP)), they are vital to your farming, survival and killing (if you go all tank runes for example) since you buy no AP until mid-game or even late mid-game.
*Also, dont need buffs really that much, so help teammates that need buffs and jungle by
letting them have it. Mana regen and CD are high enough (golem buff in particular is not
especially important), you dont need exp, you should be way ahead so no need to jungle for exp.
*Plus, some casters (like zil) are super slow @ killing golem until later in game.
Remember you have teleport too and can grab sight wards and drop them on the way.. always
helpful early game against ganks; near nashor, dragon, enemy turret, golem or lizard king camp.
*If in Summoners Rift and with an allied champ with bloodrazor and a little survivability, you can claim nashor buff quite early if timed well. Have ally start to solo nashor (and double bomb if needed, save enough for revive) and then hangout in bushes to spot curious champs (wards are good idea to the north) as long ally can basically take about 3/4 of nashor's life without dying, @ at this point Nashor is angry and wants to kill solo so cast revive and join fight or have rest of team help late leg.. then, you can just hangout in bushes wait for surprise attack. They never expect you baron early game and when they see you can a lot of teams quit.
*Ive meet summoners who dont believe in the power of Zilean the Chronokeeper! I hope I find you on the fields of justice and persuade you as ally or enemy that Zilean is an amazing champion.

*Lastly,Im not saying this is the best Zil, i have played hundreds of games with this Zil, it takes practice but this is a very rewarding build. Remember that since you start by getting chalice and boots, you have time to decide if this is the right build for the game you are playing, if your a killer go AP/if you have weak tank or good communication with allies go with my Cant kill the Zil!
