First when your team is mainly ad you take ap or if you team in mainly ap you take ad.
And it depend on the matchup, typically when you are facing champ that you will trade on long term (bruiser / tank) you will take ad. And if the champ you are facing is a champ with short trade you can take ap.
Finally ad and ap udyr are very different so test both of them and take the one you like the most!
