Background

Hey guys, I am "UNR34LmRjINx", an NA Diamond Support main. I have been playing league since season 3 and have always enjoyed support the most.
I started off playing mid lane like every soloQ nerd out there. I got placed in Silver 3 during season 3 and finished in Silver 3 after a full season of play. I wondered why I was not getting a higher rank when I feel like I had improved. The next season I gave up my dream of mid lane and tried support out, it was kind of still an AP role right? I noticed very quickly that my rank went straight to Gold 3 within 2 weeks of swapping roles. I then tried to go back into the mid lane and fell back out of Gold. It felt weird that I shot up so quick on support and back down on mid lane. So I went back to support and went right back to Gold 3. I finished season 4 in Gold 3! A year later I was in Platinum 3! Then Diamond 3!
I wondered how I could raise through the ranks so easily in such a weak role?? But through a lot of trial and error, I realized that it wasn't playing support that made me a higher elo player.. It was the game knowledge and different approach that playing support taught me, that lead me to climb through the ranks.

Game Knowledge / Approach

When playing league of legends, there are many different aspects of the game to think about leading into a match. Should you counter pick your opponent? Should you run a cheese build? Play for the late or early game? Should you ward more? Learn new things or practice old things? It gets confusing out there when trying to diagnose your own game on how to improve to rank up fastest. In the end I'll give some tips and tricks on how to improve your game knowledge and approach that will help you rank up fastest.
Just try to think of league as a game of odds. In league of legends, a Bronze/Silver player wins around 45%-50% of their games played in ranked. Diamond players win around 50%-55% of their games. That's not a huge difference! All it takes to improve your rank to Diamond, is to bring your teams odds of winning up 5%! Easy right? You'd be surprised what simple things are actually holding people back that can be overlooked or forgotten about. The small things are all that separates Bronzies from Diamonds.

Tips & Tricks

Early Game:

PING EVERYTHING FOR YOUR TEAM!
The more deaths you save = essentially kills for your team
Your teammates will surprisingly carry more if you ping the enemies movement
More communication = more opportunities

Keep Wards High
Knowing the jungler's path saves first blood almost every game
Your jungler can get an early advantage if they can invade
Wards can give ganks that extra auto needed to secure kills

Don't Face Check!
There is little advantage to risking your life for seeing into 1 bush temporarily
At such low levels, most fights come down to the last or FIRST auto.
If you're late loading in, don't face check a river bush xD

Stay In Lane As Much As Possible
Losing XP early can ruin your whole mid game
Gold wins the game, stay for as much as you can
Mirror your opponent when returning to lane

Farming Is Always Fine
Too many people die trying to go aggressive
If you can out farm your opponent, you can always come back
Gold wins games

Mid Game:

PING EVERYTHING FOR YOUR TEAM!
I know this is on here twice but its so huge to keep up
The more deaths you save = essentially kills for your team
Your teammates will surprisingly carry more if you ping the enemies movement

Look To Roam
Mid game is where most characters have hard spikes, makes for easy 1v2's or 2v3's
You can clear waves fast and move out quickly without being spotted
You can clear enemy jungle camps with 1 full combo now

Push Objectives Hard
Objectives literally win games, take them all
Group a lot to push towers, dragons, epics
Teams snowball the absolute most from holding the map together

Help Every Fight
No matter how far a fight is, the fight will last longer
You can turn the tide of 97% of fights alone
You will get increasingly more kills if you finish the camps after you help the team fight. The alternative is your teammate feeds the other team solo.

Late Game:

PING EVERYTHING FOR YOUR TEAM!
I know this is on here three times but its so huge to keep up
Saving a death here, is saving the game
Your teammates could find a free pick if you ping out a carry

Keep Wards High
You need to know where the enemy is to have a good engage
Spotting a jungler far from baron could mean a free baron
If one of your teammates gets caught, you will lose

Stay Grouped
As long as your team is together, they are at their strongest.. don't weaken yourselves
One person wandering away from a group is the cause of 80% of lost games
A won team fight or game is worth giving up 10 cs

Peel!
All late game team fights are determined by the longest living adc
You'd be surprised how often that's the case
Getting tanky for the final team fights is always the best option when deciding items
Download the Porofessor App for Windows
