Hey, I've been using Hecarim a lot and I've been buying Hydra on almost every game. I find myself having great sustain and doing good damage, have you tried it?
No, I haven't.
I honestly don't see a good reason to get it. Unless your team is in desperate need of wave-clear, and you can couple W with hydra to heal ridiculous amounts while clearing a wave, Hecarim already has loads of AOE damage and I don't think it would help his clear speed or offensive ability nearly as much as single target items would.
The stats aren't exactly what I would look for in a Hecarim build - AD, Health Regen, Lifesteal. Hecarim has sustain already. Youmuu's Ghostblade is a better offensive item with a more useful active. Blade of the Ruined King offers lifesteal as well if that's what you're after and again a better active for hecarim. Trinity force / Iceborn Gauntlet will help his burst more via the Sheen proc, with Iceborn helping his AOE burst more. Given that I wouldn't build it before Ghostblade, BotRK, and Iceborn Gauntlet, that would mean I need to build more than 3 offensive items to get it (assuming I'm not going the warrior enchantment on my jungle item), and once you throw in boots you're leaving 1 item for defence (which may be your jungle item).
I'm open to ideas though, do you mind explaining what made you think of including it in your build? Why do you think it goes well with Hecarim? Just the added AOE burst damage? What makes it preferable over the 3 offensive items I listed above?
I used to run 1 in the mana and 3 in the summoner spell CDR. After the smite changes though, Smite's stacking timer is unaffected by that mastery, only the 15 second cooldown part is affected. So I don't find spending 3 points there to be very worthwhile anymore, although I'll revert the mastery page if Riot decides to make it reduce the charging time on smite.
Will look in to the recall option. I like the mana just because it's the worst to need to cover a lane when you're low mana. Most times however, I can get to my Iceborn Gauntlet before having mana problems (and once you have that it seems mana isn't much of an issue anymore). The recent Q mana reduction has been a huge help.
