Not Updated For Current Season
This guide has not yet been updated for the current season. Please keep this in mind while reading. You can see the most recently updated guides on the browse guides page
Early game you make him your slave. Late game his bulk will over power yours. Just be careful of his CC and you should win lane. Also his Q and his R interrupt your ult.
Poppy
You both can stop Poppy's engage and can stop Poppy's ult. Treat this match up as a skill match up and be careful.
Darius
He can make your day hell, and can blow you back like it's 2005. His passive is very scary and he has sustain in lane with his Q.
Singed
Don't play like an idiot. You should win EASILY.
Cho'Gath
He can interrupt your ult and he has true damage with his ult. He also has an AoE silence that can stop your combo. If he misses his Q and his W isn't up, then there's nothing stopping you from going in on him.
Illaoi
Pretty irritating lane opponent to be honest. Although she has no form of reliable CC, her damage output is very high. Be careful of her tentacles and run when she ults.
Yasuo
Although uncommon, he can go top. He's squishy enough for you to all-in him at lvl 2 and you might even kill him if done correctly. Just be careful of his crit. In this match-up I HIGHLY advise getting Randuin's Omen.
Kindred
Uncommon but can be very scary. They can kite you pretty hard and her ult can screw you out of a kill. With that being said however, her ult can benefit you and save you and she's honestly pretty squishy.
Garen
DEMACIA! He can be a challenge to deal with. His passive can heal him from trades and his Q can silence. Oh and by the way when your the villain you take true damage from EVERYTHING HE HAS. And his ult deals true damage.
Volibear
He's REALLY bulky, and has plenty of CC. Watch out for his Q, since if he's going for you he runs faster, and watch for his passive. It can save him from getting killed and can make it so he kills you instead.
Alistar
STAMPEDE! As bulky as he is, that's about it. He has very high cool down early-game and high mana cost. He has sustain in lane, but it's not much. He can set-up ganks for the enemy JGler very well though, watch out for that.
Pantheon
His harass is super annoying and his passive can block anything, even TURRET SHOTS. Other than that, his mana cost is high and he's not very bulky.
Wukong
The legendary Wu****. I love playing this guy. Anyway, he's fairly simple to counter as long as you know it's him. His clone can make you doubt yourself and he can play mind games with you.
Renekton
I swear this guy can make the game have a certain beauty to it when it's black and white. High damage, good CC, sustain in lane, his passive empowering his spells, and his ult giving him HP. Overall a very difficult lane. I love playing him though.
Vayne
Squishy, but high damage. Weak to CC, but she has range so good luck getting close enough to her. Oh and she can pin you to walls just like you can, except it's safer.
Jax
Pre-6 you can beat him, post-6 it can go either way. The thing you need to watch for is his counter. He also becomes very scary late-game when he has Rage Blade and Ruined King.
Nasus
I feel nothing but hate when I fight Susan. His Q when stacked can just delete you and it's scary. Very scary. Just hope you can beat him pre-6 and deny him of his farm and of his stacks.
Sejuani
Meh. She has high CC and is pretty bulky, but that's it. It's pretty much like playing against Alistar.
Shen
This guy got a good rework. So good that it can be scary to fight him. Watch for his Q and his W. Also keep an eye on him, because he can go bot lane with his ult and help the adc get a kill.
Taric
Gems won't save him from you. It's simply outrageous.
Gnar
His poke is scary, and the 3-hit passive from his W can chunk you for a lot of your health. Watch for when his passive becomes active because that's when he's really scary.
Dr. Mundo
Since he's like banned so much you don't see him like EVER. But when you do...it's not too bad. His ult is irritating and his Q can be dumb, but other than that he's not too bad.
Tryndamere
This guy. This guy is like drinking bleach. High DPS, crit, and his ult can save him from anything. Just like Yasuo, I HIGHLY recommend buying Randuin's Omen.
Teemo
He's not hard to play around with. Just watch for the mushrooms and his blind and you should win.
Quinn
She has a blind, and high burst. With this being said however, she's squishy and Pre-6 you give her a hard time.
Master Yi
You never see him top, like ever. If you do however, just know that he's easy to face. Just be careful of his burst damage late-game.
Tahm Kench
His W can do plenty of damage and his E can save him from trades and being killed. His ult also passively gives him bonus AP damage per AA and spell that hits.
Malphite
Since your W stops dashes, you think it stops Malph's ult. You thought wrong. He's also bulky and if he's building AP, his Q will start doing damage.
Gangplank
Has sustain and can be annoying with his barrels. He's not very bulky though, so have fun with that.
Riven
In my opinion, Riven is easy to fight. You beat her pre-6 and she's squishy.
Fiora
*Sigh* Explaining her is fun. She has a spell where she becomes invulnerable to everything and she has high damage.
Fizz
He can tower dive you easily, and can shred your health. Be wary of his jump.
Ekko
He has high damage, and can make your health bar go from 100 to 0 so fast. However, he's squishy so take advantage of it.
Hi guys! Welcome to my Poppy guide. Here I'll be talking about her abilities, strats/tips, and why you should play her. If you're wondering/curious, I've played League since s5 and I've played Poppy since the rework and I can say she's great. Anyway, lets get to it!
Her buckler can be broken by enemy champs
when on the ground
She can get kited pretty hard
Her W doesn't stop blinks or Flash
Spells
Spells
You know to take this, but just in case you didn't know to...
Her mobility is kind of meh. so take this so you can get back to lane faster and to have better objective control.
You CAN take this, but it's not recommended. It would only be used for kill pressure, and I would only take it if I was going against someone like Garen.
Items
Items
Black Cleaver and Trinity Force are the core items of the first two builds, as they both give CDR, AD, and HP with extra benefits. Black Cleaver and sterack's gage are the core items of her last build, since you're going tank and the HP you get from both items are nice.
FB #1
-This is my normal build with her, and it's the most practical one I've used and enjoyed.
FB #2
-I would use this build if I was running Grasp of the Undying on Poppy, it also works with TL but I feel it's better with grasp.
FB #3
-This last build I would use if I was building straight tank with her, making Black Cleaver and sterack's gage her core items.

Let's talk about her passive Iron Ambassador. It gives her rane, bonus AP, and when she picks it up it gives her a little shield for 15% of her max health. Also, if her Buckler kills a target, it goes back to her regardless. It makes her a melee-range champ basically. On top of that, it procs TL and Grasp, making it amazing for her overall.
Her Q Hammer Shock is her main damaging spell. Low mana, high damage, and it provides a slow. It's wonderful to use in all stages in the game, great for trading and just doing all sorts of damage in duels and team fights.
Her next big ability is her E Heroic Charge. It's a point and click ability that charges poppy into an opponent damaging and carrying them with her. If she hits them against a wall, she stuns them for 1.6 - 2 seconds. It's her main engage, and when you get that stun it's beautiful. This makes her main damage combo E,Q,AA do SO MUCH DAMAGE.
Now lets talk about her W Steadfast Presence. It gives her bonus Armor and MR, and when active it gives her bonus movement speed and it also stops dashes but can't stop blinks or Flash. Not much to say about the ability. It helps you escape and that's about it.
Lastly, we have her ult Keeper's Verdict. IT. IS. AMAZING. Sort of. It deals 200 to 400 AD, and when active it slows her by 15%. When channeled it can be used as a skill shot to hit and launch enemies to their fountain no matter where you hit them. It also gives you true sight when they're airborne. If instant casted it knocks enemies straight up. This right here can be used for any situation, if you need to run away or if you need to re-position yourself to push them against the wall again. It also can extend the combo, for example: E,Q,AA,R,E,Q. It also can hit up to 3 targets in a small area at a time.

Team Work
Team Work
Her kit can make it so late game, she can help her carries by stunning people against the wall and launch people straight up with her ult. Champs that work well with her are the ones that can follow up with what she does and can do it efficiently like:
These are just some examples, there're plenty more champs that go well with her.
Ranked Play
Ranked Play
I feel like she would do well in ranked play, but can fall short due to other champs either out-classing her, or champs that can do her job better. Other than that though, she's definitely viable for ranked play.
Summary
Summary
Overall, I love Poppy's rework. She's tanky, does good damage and is able to fight plenty of the top laners. Riot did a good job with this one, and I hope they can rework other characters that need some updates *cough* WARWICK *cough*. Anyways, thank you for reading, I'll be updating this guide time to time so keep an eye out and I hope this guide takes you to the TOP! ...Get it? Top? You know the role...I'll stop now.
