well you start off with the standard start of a dorans ring and 2 health potions. Dorans ring is perfect for starting off with vel'koz since your gonna be spamming abilities to poke your opponents and get CS. Don't forget your warding totemand go to mid lane. start by warding the jungle preferably the one with blueand gromp. Don't try to pick a fight just try and bait them towards your teammates. Usually nothing happens so just chill around until your minions spawn in then head back to lane.

This is where Vel'koz is at his best. His W makes it so you can both get CS poke the enemy champions and avoid there skill shots behind your minions. But by doing this you will run out of mana fast so try and not completely spam your abilities until you can get the kill. Your Q does a lot of damage and doesn't use a bunch of mana unlike your W so try and poke the enemy champions with that.

Roaming is something i like to do after i get like Morecel.... Morce.... what ever that book item is called and try and help out bot lane and just leave top lane to do their own thing for now until its time for the team fights. Helping your ADC by poking your opponents through the wall is very useful for late game dominance. If your ADC can't secure the kill just clean up with a nice destruction death ray of destruction..... thing.

There are many many many tactics that you can use with a champ like vel'koz. For example my favourite tactic is to use the spamming tactic. ( I know not very creative name but its all i could think of for this strategy). You pretty much hide behind your minions and poke you opponent with your W and but mostly focus on try to get CS on creeps. When roaming instead of walking through the river its usually better to hide behind a wall and shoot your Q and your Ulti through the wall. Try and find a tactic that best suits your play style though.
