Introduction to LeBlanc

Le Blanc is an extremely strong ap assassin with also an extremely high skill cap, having a over 400 damage nuke combo at level 6, she will most of the time gain stacks extremely quickly on her mejai soulstealer farming off the opponents squishies. Also, her ability to roam so effectively gaining stacks would make the enemies towerhug and lose their farming. Le Blanc is supposed to be played like Kassadin, Chase, and Nuke. Kill the mages, the AD carries or the squishy supports. (Taric not included)
Problem is, by having a banshee veil; half of her potential burst damage is reduced significantly. Also, her ability to farm is low, having only able one aoe skill which is her Distortion to farm.
So, Why play Le Blanc when you can play other anti mages or burst casters?

Pros / Cons of Le Blanc

Pros:
1) Early game burst potential.
2) Almost being ungankable whilst in lane.
3) Supreme zoning capabilities.
4) Snowball efficiency.
5) Juking potential.
6) She doesn't require Blue buff in comparision to other ap assasins for example, Kassadin.

Cons:
1) Extremely squishy.
2) Requires fast thinking and hand movements.
3) You cannot make any mistakes. At. All. Or you will die.
4) Farming is very inefficient (apart from excellent last hitting animation and projectile speed)

Skills

Mirror Image(Innate): When LeBlanc is brought below 40% health, she instantly becomes stealthed for half a second. When the stealth fades, she creates a Mirror Image that deals no damage and lasts for up to 8 seconds. This can only occur once per minute.

A almost useless passive, but it does give some juking ability if you command it to go a different direction than you. (Control + right mouse button to control pets)

Sigil of Silence (Active): LeBlanc projects an orb towards her target, dealing magic damage and marking the target for 3.5 seconds. If the target takes damage from one of Leblanc's abilities, the mark will trigger, dealing damage and silencing the target for 2 seconds.

Cooldown: 6 seconds
Range: 700
Cost: 70/75/80/85/90 Mana
Initial Magic Damage: 70/110/150/190/230(+0.6 per Ability Power)
Secondary Magic Damage: 20/40/60/80/100(+0.3 per Ability Power)

Leblanc's bread and butter skill, this is what defines Leblanc as well, LeBlanc. A 2 second silence that's able to be recasted 6seconds later and that a 4second silence procs when you cast you Sigil-Mimic-Distortion combo as well. It prevents squishy targets from escaping easily due to the silencing of both skills and summoner escape moves, Ethereal Chains can be used after your combo to ensure flash moves from being used.

Distortion (Active): LeBlanc rapidly moves to a target location, dealing magic damage to nearby units. In the following 3 seconds, she can activate Distortion again to return to her starting location.

Range: 600
Area of Effect: 250
Cooldown: 20/18/16/14/12 seconds
Cost: 80/90/100/110/120 Mana
Magic Damage: 85/125/165/205/245(+0.6 per Ability Power)

A instant blink thats able to bring you back to safety on a 12 second cooldown that's able to proc twice to perform extreme juking. Distortion has roughly a 725 max range damage potential. Which means, its a good and strong gap closer to proc Sigil of Silence. Combining this with your flash and ultimate, it will most likely save you against any chasers, except kassadin of course.

Ethereal Chains (Active): LeBlanc flings illusionary chains towards a target location. If it hits an enemy unit, it will deal initial magic damage and slow their movement speed by 25%. If the target remains shackled for 2 seconds, the target takes additional magic damage and is unable to move for a few seconds.

Cost: 80 Mana
Cooldown: 10 seconds
Range: 950
Initial Magic Damage: 40/65/90/115/140(+0.4 per Ability Power)
Delayed Magic Damage: 40/65/90/115/140(+0.4 per Ability Power)
Snare: 1/1.3/1.6/1.9/2.2 second(s)

Combining Sigil of Silence and then Ethereal Chains prevents the enemy from escaping by summoner flash, ghost or skills. At max rank, thats a total of a 4.2second disable (without mercs). Which is enough time for the tank to initiate or them to get burst down.

Mimic(Active): LeBlanc casts the previous spell she cast. The mimicked spell deals significantly increased damage.

Cost: 100/50/0 Mana
Damage Increase: 10/25/40 %
Cooldown: 40/32/24 seconds

You can combine Sigil-Mimic together with Sigil of Silence to Silence the target yet doing your burst damage potential. A extremely strong skill to double blink, silence, burst, snare and slow.

Summoner Spells

Why do I recommend Ignite and Flash?

Ignite does 50 damage plus 20 x Level over time to a single target which ignores their magic resistance, reduces the health regeneration and the healing effects gotten by 50%, this increases your burst damage by adding a solid 70-410 extra true damage. This will allow you to grab stacks sooner due to your total damage output.

Flash is a 425 range blink skill, it's inferior to your distortion but; flash is overall a extremely good ability. To catch up instantly, escape, juke and all other fancy things.

Other suggestions:

Ghost allows you to ignores unit collision and moves 27% faster for 14 seconds, whilst this may look good, does it give the all-around effectiveness of flash? It does give ability to catch up against good runners like Sivir, Master Yi or any other speedy champions.

Teleport, a 300second cool-down global teleport that's able to be casted on a allied ward, minion or turret to increase one's own map control or pushing capabilities. I personally feel, since Leblanc would be roaming the map around 80% of the total game time apart from reaching level 6 at around 7mins in game, I feel that LeBlanc would have the map control she has over most champions. By risking a escape spell or burst damage via ignite would be detrimental to her survival or snowballing capabilities.

Restores 160 + 25x level mana to your champion and 50% of that to nearby allies, Leblanc isn't a support champion. Also, Leblanc's mana regeneration would be extremely high with 2 doran rings mid to late game and with my rune set up. If you are having problems managing your mana, you might want to not last hit creeps with Distortion or Sigil of Silence unless absolutely necessary.

Exhaust slows movement speed by 40% and reduces auto/basic attack damage by 70% and ability/item damage by 35% for 3 seconds. Leblanc has already massive cc, by going for exhaust, she would be much better off taking ignite as her spell for more burst damage.
But, against a extremely tanky, physical team, for instance, garen, tryndamere, olaf, master yi, Miss Fortune, etc. Exhaust would be a better choice. But what are the odds?

Runes and Masteries

For runes and masteries. I personally go a 9/0/21 build.

Taking Magic pen in the offensive tree , increased cooldowns and recharge time on my summoner abilities in my utility tree. this enables me to use ignite to finish opponents and yet have faster cooldowns on my skills. Faster cooldown of ignite = more burst damage.

For my runes, I take a standard Caster set, magic penetration reds, mp regen blues and yellows and hp quintessences.

I take Mp regeneration blues instead of Cooldown reduction because i tend to roam with the jungler to gank frequently, using all my mp. So in other words, i just take it for sustained ganking potential.

Skill Sequence

Also, this is my regular skill order.

I take a early point in Sigil to harass well. Or you could grab a point in Ethereal Chains first for a early level 1 gank. but though you will not harass well at level 2-4 due to the lack of damage from Sigil.

LeBlanc has unusually high damage on all her skills. Sigil + Mimic, Distortion and Ethereal Chains with ignite will most of the time kill any squishy that do not have banshee up.

At lvl 6,

Sigil (150 damage) + Mimic (165 damage) + Sigil's proc (60 damage) + Distortion (85 damage) + Mimic Sigil Proc (66 damage) + Ethereal Chains[duo proc] (80 damage) + Sigil (150 damage) + ignite (170 damage)

That means.. A total of 756 damage + 170 true damage. (Not adding in resists and auto attacks)

That is currently the game's highest burst damage with continuous CC in the game. 4 second long silence with a 0.8second snare at lvl 6.

Builds

For my build order, since Le Blanc's base damage is fairly strong, I would recommend stacking 2-3 doran rings since they're efficient and effective and then getting a Sorcerer's shoes and a Mejai Soulstealer.

Why stack Doran Rings?

You might say why? Isn't rushing a fast soulstealer after your first ring and then starting on your rabadon deathcap more effective? 2-3 Doran rings provide 30-45 ap respectively, giving your damage a rough 26 to 37 damage increase. I get it because I'm almost never in lane. Catalyst works well if I'm in a lane since I would be getting a constant stream of exp. But, I wouldn't level as much since I'm roaming almost 80% of the time after getting to level 6, thus the passive it gives is pretty much useless. Also, it gives me the extra edge by providing a 200hp-300hp increase to survive early tower diving, small teamfights and give me sustainability together with my mpregen runes. I'm thus able to survive without any form of mp stat increasing item, even till late game. For a cost of 950-1435 gold, Doran items are still the best, most effective items to purchase early in the game.

For a bare minimum of 3.7k gold, this early-mid game setup would let you get stacks and also helping you maintain them. At lvl 8, I have a total of 1360 hp having a duo blink and flash at hand, making me hard to be chased down.

Also, I've considered getting a Haunting Guise since spell pen affects every skill she does. Twice. But due to its 1.4k gold cost and her absurd farming rate, I personally feel that going straight for a Needlessly Large Rod (1.6k gold cost) is a more cost efficient way since you can get Rabadon Deathcap later and that Guise doesnt build into anything worthwhile. Also, for cost efficiency, a voidstaff of 40% magic pen at 2050 gold is better than Haunting Guise has to offer since after mid game, every champion will have some sort of magic resist, FoN or a Banshee Veil.

Le Blanc's counter pick is tanky dps. Shes a burst caster, if she cannot kill you in a single burst, she's totally useless. So in order to counter pick Le Blanc in ranked games, pick a team comprising of solid tanky dps. to counteract these tanky dps, I highly recommend taking a fast deathfire grasp right after 2 doran rings.

This would allow your mid game damage to still be exceptionally high due to the active of DFG, doing 35% of your enemy's current hp, thus still doing loads of damage to those who are extremely tanky.

Xin'zhao, Nasus, Olaf, Blitzcrank, etc. will **** your face late game via numerous ways, so try and end the game early. Bad positioning, getting caught, getting hooked and of course lag will kill you.

Le Blanc's also counter is burst casters like herself, who ever did the silence or the CC first, wins the fight. Period. Blitzcrank's aoe silence allows a smooth burst by LB without a instant burst down.

Late game, Le Blanc's burst damage is determined whether is your team smart enough to burst their banshees. Personally, going into late game is extremely hard as LeBlanc would snowball the game into their favor very quickly. Allowing her own late game carry farm as much as they can due to your deadly ganks would make most non-tanky teams tower hug.

Also, Against heavy CC teams, I would definitely take a banshees over a rylai just to prevent myself from getting wrecked in a teamfight. The magic resistance to go with the armor increase on zhonya hourglass is similar to the defenses of a sole GA.

Laning phrase

Le Blanc has currently one of the strongest laning phrases next to Pantheon. She has a superior gap closer due to double Distortion, She's able to do a combo of Range 700(Sigil), in addition to 600(Distortion) to have a potential 1300range of harassment. Dr Mundo's cleavers which is a high damaging skillshot much similar to Sigil of Silence has a maximum of 1000 range. It is much shorter than the amount of harassment potential Leblanc's able to deliver. Leblanc is also known due to the sheer burst damage potential and how she can use her abilities in a certain combo to maintain permanent zoning effect. Forcing the opponents to purchase early game magic resist, delaying them to purchase that early bf sword for that tad bit of more survivability, which will improve your carry's mid game damage potential in teamfights. Also, she forces that squishy carry to waste mp on his escape moves or summoner spells, making them easier to reach if they partake in a teamfight soon after the confrontation.

There are certain instances that certain combos are better than others, being safer to prevent a gank, able to zone him effectively without being ganked or just juking well with distortion. Use your instincts whether that certain combos will be better than the others in your current situation.

Combo-ing with LeBlanc

1)Sigil of Silence to Distortion. The maximum damage range of Distortion is roughly 725 range adding in Distortion's aoe together with its maximum range. Most players after getting Sigil-ed will move back quickly, having a base 321 speed you are most probably able to catch up to the opponent.
[Strong early game burst damage that you're able to deliver from level 2 onwards.]

2)Distortion to creep wave, Sigil of Silence and then cast you ultimate on that same target. Chains if you have a clear shot on your opponent or if there're no nearby creeps, distort back to the safety of your tower.
[Enables you to push the creep wave slightly back, out of turret range whilst bursting the opponent with your skills and still remaining in a very safe position.]

3)Distortion to a side, cast your ultimate to move near to the enemy champion, throw a sigil of silence and then your Ethereal Chains to ensure a 2 seconds silence and a snare. Useful for great escapers like Tristana or Ezreal.
[You are now easily ganked by their jungler till your distortion gets up again]

4)The normal combo, Sigil of Silence, Ultimate, Distortion, Ethereal Chains, Sigil of Silence.
[Does a great burst of damage and cc, most likely will force your opponent to heal up]

5)You can sub flash over distort since distortion is in every way superior to flash, so you can use flash over distort as a gap closer to enable your distortion to actually do damage. So, an example would be: Flash, Sigil of Silence, Ultimate, Distortion and then using Ethereal Chains.
[Do note that Leblanc is at her weakest once she blows both flash and Distortion with her ultimate down.]

6)Ethereal Chains, (Only if they flash or ghost) cast Distortion to get into range for a Sigil and then her Ultimate.
[Low damaging burst to force your opponents to blow their cooldowns to survive the initial burst.]

Teamfights with Leblanc

In a teamfight, Le Blanc could also be used as a disabler for melee or tanks due to her 2second long snare.

So, by using Sigil of Silence, throwing a Chain then casting your ultimate and throwing another chain at someone else, this combo forces them to break the tether or risk getting snared. Also, it works very effectively on skillshot/positioning champions like shen, malphite or rammus, since they can't get into position to use their skills effectively.

The key to victory of using Leblanc is her abilities extremely quick in succession, so that the opponents due to your silence or snare your prey will not escape by either summoner spells or their own skillset. If you're able to perform the skills quickly in succession, there is a very high chance of killing that opponent. To do so effectively, smartcasting of her skills is highly, highly, highly recommended.

FAQ

1)Q: Why do you take 3 Doran rings?

A: I take the 3 rings due to their AP + HP stats. Having an extra 200-300 extra hp early on in the game prevents you from dying easily to ganks and also survivability in teamfights, also the 30ap to 45 ap allows your combo to deal a tad more damage. The mpregen from the 3 rings is just great.
