Chapter 1

(image borrowed)

Ok so Ive been playing KogMaw since I started playing this game, so I trust my build, and it usually works out for me. Im currently working on an AP build as well so ill edit it in or make a new one when I do.

Pros and Cons:

The Pros of playing Kogmaw would be the tank destruction; I love to watch someone like mundo's health melt like butter in the microwave. AD Kogmaw is strong with anyone with a stun. His passive, if used correctly, will also get you a few kills early game.

Cons of Kogmaw would probably be early squishy-ness and slow move speed until Zeal and no escape moves.

Rune page:

For runes I chose mostly attack speed, most of you will think this is stupid but but when you end up with 1.0 (estimation) attack speed at level 2 it really makes a difference early game.
I use health per level mostly for early survivability, obviously, you could change those for flat health or health regen. However, its up to your preferences like usual.
The Armor pen is obvious really, for his regular attacking.

Masteries:

I use 21/6/3 masteries putting three in Perseverance for the obvious reasons. Three in Resistance, Hardiness, and the classic DPS 21 in offence

Item Build:

Daggers first so you attack faster and maybe get first blood if you want.
I usually get berserkers greaves for the attack speed but if they have a lot of CC merc. Treads are a good alternative.

I get Madreds Blood Razors, to give you the damage/attack speed and that amazing passive that seems to be made just for Kog'maw.

Zeal for the movement and critical followed by Giants belt for the obvious reasons. I use that order so I dont waste time fully finishing Phantom Dancers or Frozen Mallet before starting the other, the order depends on how well you are doing by the time you get to this part.

Next, I would get Blood thirster for the life steal and damage. You can get either B.F Sword or Vampiric Scepter first it does not really matter but I usually get the life steal.

Last but not least, either Infinity Edge or Banshee's Veil depends on the enemy team. If they have, a lot of CC Banshee's Veil is the better choice but if you are creaming them or they have, almost no CC and/or you already have merc. treads and dont need more CC Reduction Infinity Edge would be better.

Getting the Elixers and Oracles after you finish your build is usually a givin but i figured i should put it in for those who didnt think of it. You only really NEED Oracles if you have Stealths or ward happy people

Skill Sequence:

I use Bio-Arcane Barrage first when I want to go for FB and Void Ooze if am just trying to play it safe until level six. Either way I level up Bio-Arcane Barrage the most and Caustic spittle next for the attack speed bonus and the active, followed, obviously, by the Void Ooze.

Summoner Spells:

I chose Cleanse and Flash but you could change Cleanse with Exhaust or Flash with Ghost, or any combination you prefer. I find Cleanse useful for getting away early game and escaping ganks and flash to finish off the escape. obviously, ghost could work as well as flash.

Other:

Farming is obviously quite easy with KogMaw, even early game, if you need or want to get rid of a lot of minions fast activate your Bio-Arcane Barrage and have fun watching them drop like flies.

A good combo for Kogmaw is the Void Ooze, followed by Living Artillery, Caustic spittle and finishes them off with Bio-Arcane Barrage if you need it.

Early game you should defiantly play it a little safe unless you have a strong lane partner or, provided your mid, are comfortable extending without worrying about dying. Kogmaw has no escape moves so unless you get summoner spells that help you escape you will be stuck and running slow to get away so be careful.

Mid game you will be faster and stronger so you shouldnt be having too many problems with farming or getting kills, but you will still be a bit vulnerable to ganks and harassment. It goes without saying but dont go alone or your just asking to be ganked.

Late game you will be owning just about any 1 person 1v1 without much trouble. It will be hard not to take most of the kills in team fights, with an attack speed of almost 2.5 per second and doing 10% of their maximum health as magic damage it happens.
