Intro

Hello and welcome to my 1st guide here on Mobafire! There seems to be alot of confusion surrounding Viktor and im here to clear that up. people are having a tough time placing him, while he is a decent solo top I feel his true place is Mid, his W makes him difficult to gank and his Q allows him to trade with little fear of counter attack.

Pros:
Heavy nukes
Amazing Ult
Difficult to gank
Great late game
Starts with extra item (Hexcore)
He's a robot!

Cons:
Weak early game
His E can be difficult to land
Has a learning curve
All spell besides Q are skillshots in some way

Runes

These runes are a pretty standard AP runes, you need the armor and MR because you will be focused alot in teamfights and to help you stay healthy in trades/gank attempts. I would recommend the AP quints to make you more of a threat early game. I have seen people recommending straight AP runes in other guides and I feel it'll make you too squishy and having you B and missing alot of CS.

Masteries

The 21/9/0 Build is aimed at giving you early game survivability while still maintaining your late game threat. 21/0/9 won't work well in your favor because viktor isn't blue dependant and red buff is (Always) better in the hands of an AD carry.

Items

I feel on most AP carries, stacking doran's rings and rushing a deathcap is the best way to go. The doran's will give you some more survivability and AP and once you get your deathcap people will think twice about crossing your path. As for every build, these items are not set in stone, if you're up against say a galio, replace Rylai's with a Void Staff. If you're up against GP mid or AD, get Ninja tabi boots. Guides are just that, general information to help you guide you on the right path but you should always build accordingly to what you need in the moment.

Viktor is unique in the fact that he is the 1st champion to start with an item called a Hexcore. This item gives you 3 AP per lvl and can be upgraded into one of the following:
Augment: Power
(Passive): Power Transfer increases Viktor's movement speed by 30% for 3 seconds. It grants him +3 ability power per level, +220 health and +6 health regen per 5 seconds.

This is the augment I recommend for most players. The health and movement speed proc is too good to pass up. The movement speed buff will keep you close to your enemy letting you laser snipe alot easier and more frequently.

Augment: Gravity

(Passive): Gravity Field has an additional 30% cast range. It grants him +3 ability power per level, +200 mana, +10% cooldown reduction, +5 mana regen per 5 seconds.

This augment is okay but out shined by both Augment:Power and Augment:Death. if you stack CDR this might be worth taking another look at. More testing is needed but as it stands, Augment power or death are the way to go.
Augment: Death

(Passive): Death Ray sets fire to enemies, dealing 30% additional magic damage over 4 seconds. It grants him +3 ability power per level, +45 ability power.

This augment should only be taken by those who have MASTERED (E)Death Ray and have gotten very fed early game. I don't recommend this augment only because of the fact that Death Ray can be hard to land and thus won't get the maximum use out of the augment. I also find more than not that without the movement speed from Augment:Power, you will find yourself chasing an enemy that got away with low HP rather than getting the kill.

Now you might be asking yourself: "Well I know what augment to get but WHEN do I get it?"
Good question! I recommend picking up your hexcore early-mid game, it's okay to postpone your deathcap for your augment as the augments are more useful the earlier you acquire them.

Skill Sequence and Skill Breakdown

Skill sequence should be as follows:

For Pokes/Harass:
E>Q>E>Q>E>Q

Rinse and repeat. You should be aiming your laser when your running into position for Q. You hit your Q and wait for E to come off CD for another poke. Wither away your enemies HP by doing this until you hit lvl 6 and finish the job with this skill sequence:

Kill/All in:
E>Q>R>W>E>Q

This skill sequence will ensure you a kill with ignite. Viktor's best feature is his ult. It does LOADS of dmg which is underestimated by most people AND it follows your target to boot! W ensures your target stays in range and takes the full dmg of your ultimate. If your going to commit to a kill make sure the jungler is elsewhere as you'll be completely vulnerable when unleashing your full arsenal.
(Active): Viktor blasts an enemy unit for magic damage, returning 40% of the damage dealt before reduction as a shield for 3 seconds.
Range: 600

This is your bread and butter skill. It is your most consistant source of dmg and your poke/harass skill. Max it as soon as you can and you'll be surprised at the dmg it deals. A handy thing of note about this spell is that the shield stacks.

GRAVITY FIELD

(Active): Viktor conjures a gravitational imprisonment device in an area near him, slowing all enemies that pass above it. Whilst under its effect, enemies generate stacks every 0.5 seconds; at 3 stacks the target will be stunned for 1.5 seconds.

This spell will save you from ganks, save your team in team fights, Prevent escape & ensure yours. The utility from this spell is amazing. Combine this with your Ult and you've dished out a slow, Hard CC and a silence while dealing TONS of dmg with your ult.

DEATH RAY

(Active): Viktor uses his robotic arm to fire a chaos beam that sweeps across the field in a chosen path, dealing magic damage to every enemy it hits.

Oh the Death Ray. The talk of the town! What separates the men from the boys. The ultimate poke spell and quite possibly the hardest spell to land in LOL since corki's rockets. This spell is similar in cast to Rumble's Rockets so those familiar with his Ult will have no problem picking this up. To those not so fortunate I'm here to help. To aim this spell simply click where you'd like the spell to start and drag your cursor in the direction you want the laser to go. I would define perfecting this skill cast as learning to paint a stroke with a brush, The action is simultaneous as in you click and drag in the same motion. When you get good with this ability you will learn how great it can be. It deals considerable dmg and you can outpoke almost anyone with it.

CHAOS STORM

(Active): Viktor conjures a chaos storm at the target location, dealing magic damage and silencing enemies in the area for 0.5 seconds. As it churns, the storm deals magic damage every second to nearby enemies for 7 seconds. Activating this ability again while the singularity is active will redirect it. The storm moves faster the closer it is to Viktor.

Quite honestly my favorite Ult after Tryndamere's. What can be said about this ult that already hasn't been said about Jesus. It silences, it hurts, it follows your enemies and best of all, it's an AOE! you can even redirect it! IT'S BULLETPROOF. Hang around an enemy while it's up and watch their HP disappear. An amazing ult and it makes those "WTF I HIT MAH LAZER!" moments seem alittle less painful.

Summoner Spells

Flash is a must have in the current meta, it's just too invaluable to pass up, you can use it to gank, to flee, position your W I hear it even helps you make pancakes now.
Ignite compliments your flash well for ganks, ensures your kills and lets you have battles to the death with champions such as swain, nocturne, or warwick. Real men use ignite. All i'm sayin'.

Role & Teamfights

Viktor is a great duelist and a rewarding champion, meaning he's fun to play and rewards player talent (IE: Gotta hit those lasers for the ladies!) His ultimate is one of the best in the game and makes his dmg deceptive. In teamfights your (W)Gravity Field+(R)Chaos Storm can literally WIN YOUR TEAM THE FIGHT. Viktor shouldn't be in the front lines of any fight, He should instead be in back of the tank, picking off the enemy team's AD/AP carries with his laser and (Q)Power transfer. Always save your (W)Gravity field for when the team fight actually starts. If you can land it on the entire enemy team you can save your team from alot of dmg while providing valuable disables. Your W+Ult are what I would call commitment spells, Don't click them until you are ready to go in for a kill/ starting to dish out dmg for a teamfight.

Here's a screencap of a couple of games I played using this build:
