How to play Malzahar early game.

What I like to do early game is to focus on spending as little Mana as possible while farming with Malefic Visions and Void Swarm,this will also help with some mana regen from Doran's Ring and Presence of Mind to help you reach enough gold for your first back to get Lost Chapter and Boots.

My Malzahar playstyle is very much farm until you are stonger in terms of XP and gold than mindlessly fighting in river or trying to roam, Focus on farming over killing the enemy laner, If he makes mistakes punish them with poke from Malefic Visions, Void Swarm and Call of the Void, now the reason Arcane Comet is good here is Void Swarm and Malefic Visions will proc comet more than once meaning they will take more ocmet hits while taking DOT dmg from both voidlings and your E.

For mid-late game continue farming as 6 item Malzahar is stronger than what most of the enemy team will be at least in lower elo, focus on paying attention to the minimap, keep track of ojbectives, keep track of enemy jungler, and be as oppressive to the enemy mid laner as you can especially if it's a roaming matchup the less they can roam the better or if they roam you get free tower plates just rememver to ping when your lane is gone from lane and then also ping both top and bot lane so they are aware.
